TecAmp S212/Puma500 Ultra Light Rig

I saw though Alain Caron playing live through the its Markbass Alain Caron prototype. That was worth everything!

Very cool. I would assume that only companies that either are from the EU or have significant sales in that region would attend, so it doesn't suprise me that some North American companies would not be there.

Thanks for the post. I'd enjoy meeting those guys sometime. They are doing some nice things in the bass amplification area IMO!

One of TecAmps new offerings that really seems interesting is the Black Jag 700. It seems to be more of a lightweight rackmount profile instead of a compact brick but has dual channels and a compressor like the Puma 1000 with one important extra - 700W at 8 ohms and 820W at 4 ohms bridged. This should be very nice with the larger 4ohm cabs like the Epi UL410. I think I'll take the plunge with this one.

It looks to me like the Jag's are just Puma's in a big wooden box (kind of like those 'rack head' things from Mesa).

You might want to look at the Bonafide model, which should be the same thing without the large case.

And.... I got word that my s212(II) shipped from Germany this week!

Ken, I seem to remember the S212(II) being ported for a better low end response from the same size box. That should be sweet. The new Black Jag 700 does have the Bonafide power section but only the Jag classic is in a big wooden box (I'm not a fan). The non-classic version has a 19” W x 3,5” H x 15” D rackmount format but only weighs 6.2 lbs. The Bonafide has 2 separate preamps while the Jag 700 has a single preamp with frequency switches for lo-mid/hi-mid and a compressor like the Puma 1000. Link Removed
Since the Puma 1000 doesn't bridge into 4 ohms this seems like it would be the next best thing for larger 4ohm cabs. :bassist:

That Jag700 wasn't up on the site the last time I looked. Yeah, the classic makes no sense to me (putting a lightweight amp in a big wooden box:rollno:), but the Jag700 spec looks GREAT.

It looks like they added the compressor from the 1000 to the Bonafide amp in a larger form factor. That's very nice!!!!!

:D TecAmp and MB really have it going on these days IMO!

I'm done with full rack mount sized heads, but for those who like that format, the 700 looks pretty awesome. I'm not sure, but that might be the only true stereo head since the old Walter Woods (i.e., if I'm reading the spec right, you can run two cabs in true stereo (for stereo chorus, etc.), or you can set the dual preamps to 'mono mode', equally feeding the two power amps, or bridge the power amps, etc. While none of that is particularly interesting to me (I'm, as you know, a bass to cable to amp guy), that's a nice feature set for the effects guys!

Yes actually.. It was confirmed delivered today :hyper:

Unfortunately, I'm working out of town this week, and I won't be able to pick it up until next weekend. :hmm:

But to answer some of your questions... the weight is 47 lbs and NO, the head is not removable for separate use.

The Puma 212 combo is ALL about form factor and convenience. I see it as a light, portable, plug and play solution for ALL my giging needs. It's lighter than a single berg IP112, without a pre! And from what I'm hearing on TB, they sound great too. :D

If you look back in this thread, you can see the pics I posted of the combo, the amp's chassis is redesigned for use in the combo only. Also, there's some good info on these cabs/combo's that is all worth the read.

I hope to have a preliminary review of the combo up in the next couple of weeks... so stay tuned! I may even attempt to post some sound clips. :p

Is everyone comfortable with the 1/4 inch DI?

+1 The XLR DI is on the front of the amp, and there is an additional line out. The XLR DI (a very nice one by the way) is switchable from pre to post on the front panel also. The line out is post everything except the mute button (including master volume) and is designed to power an external power amp if you want to use the Puma as a preamp to drive a more powerful power amp. All in all, it's a VERY well thought out design IMO and IME!

As a summary, the only difference between the combo212 and the Puma500/s212 is that the combo has a mid driver (along with the tilt back castor design) and the standalone has a more traditional tweeter with adjustable crossover and attenuator.

Exactly what I'm thinking about, in the summer (Mem. to Labor day) I do 2 gigs a week minimum that requires me to park and walk a 1/4 mile to a ferry, load my stuff on the boat (and leave it unattended) then after it is unloaded by a crew from the boat I have to walk on a wooden board walk to a club. It's usually really humid and most time 100 degrees inside and the power isn't always reliable. No PA support on these gigs as well. They are actually very fun as allot of young ladies make their way in with beach attire on:hyper:

Only issue seems to be so far is protecting the knobs on the top of the combo....And of course price, I haven't heard anything yet.
