TecAmp S212/Puma500 Ultra Light Rig

i sat directly in front of that , front row, Fri night........

quite a stunning performance , the tone of that rig was utter heaven, but most of that was really him, his technique is truely masterful and i dont think it really matters what amp rig he uses, he transends his equiptment.

Plus the volume level of that performance,,, i mean they could have been in my SUV and it still would not have been loud.....

totally the sh_t.

btw that was a 212 and a 210 cabs and dont know if that was the 500 or 1000 watt head i would guess the 1000 since he use to use a stereo WW.

Richard's rockin the Tecamp, eh? That settles it, I'm buying two!!! :) He is phenomenal though, and it's an astute observation that he would sound amazing on any rig. Oh, also, that's a 1000 I believe, due to the knob configuration.

He's back to Fodera?

Great time to be a bass player, as long as so many good choices, in a wide range of price points deosn't just confuse the cr*p outta ya;)

When I was coming up, we couldn't really get anything as good as the LMII, at any price point.

Y*u ju*t g*ve m* s*** f*r us*ng ast*risks, a*d n*w you'*e u*sing th*m!

:>(

Sure, sure.

This is yet another case of the big, bad string bass establishment abusing us poor, beleaguered electric 'slab' players. Sure, just 'cause your instrument's bigger than ours, and you've got calouses on the sides of your fingers, you figure you can push us around, do anything you want. Well, now we're really p*ssed off and we're not going to take it anymore! 32"-36" scale users, unite for the fight for what's right! Down with the tyrrany of Thomastic spiracores, just say NO to the oppression of the bow, and NO MORE SIMANDL EVER!

Cheers,
Cameron

That's the Puma1000 (besides the additional knobs for the compressor, it is the only model with the backlit logo, so it's easy to tell apart from the 500/350). When I ordered my rig, Ed (the distributor) said the Richard had just been in and really dug the gear. +1 to Richard sounding wonderful through anything, but the voicing of this stuff really fits with that type of playing. And, the weight/size thing really works well for 'big city freelancing'. I believe he also picked up the 112 combo.

so whats your 2 cent on yourTecamp 212 cab vrs a good ol Berg HT112 stack?

I only have 'music store' and GTG experience with the Berg HT112 stack. It's never been one of my favorites for 112's, so I'm probably not the best person to do this comparison. I always found the HT112's to be low end attenuated and a bit 'boxy' sounding (which is why the DB guys LOVE them).

Waay cool Ken....what was your reasoning in deciding 2X12 instead of 2X10 there?

Same size, virtually the same price, bigger boom.

I've never found a 210 that I was happy with as a stand alone cab, and have high hopes that this very small, very light, but 'loaded for bear' 212 might do the trick.

I went through the same thing with 112 cabs. While I like the sound of 112's, given my tone preference, I've never found a single 112 that I was happy with, even on small gigs. Hence, I picked up the new Schroeder 115L+, and it serves as 'the best 112 ever'. I'm hoping the S212 becomes my 'best 210 ever' if that makes sense.

Both the 15" loaded Schroeder and the 2 x 12 loaded TecAmpS212 are smaller and lighter than typical 112 and 210 cabs, and have WAY more ooomph, but with similar tone (due, I assume, to the relatively low internal cab volume to speaker size ratio).

So we are talking the extra 4 inches of driver surface area and the slightly bigger cab dimension?...since the sensitivity is the same and the freq response almost identical as well (or am I missing somethig else here?)

The cab is the exact same dimensions as the 210 (with I assume different porting to optimize the different speakers to the internal cab volume). I have not A/B'd the 210 and the 212. If they sound exactly the same, all I've lost is $100 and a few pounds of weight:D My assumption is, that the 12's will take a little bit more of a pounding and provide a touch more bass at high volumes (2 more inches of cone diameter for each speaker translates to a signifant increase in total cone surface area), which seems to be reflected in the specs (slightly lower -3db roll-off). Since I've never been very happy with any 210 as a stand-alone solution, and have found many 212 cabs to absolutely kill (of course, most 212's are in bigger boxes), I'm hoping this cab sits right in the middle of those two general classes of cabs. That's what I'm hearing so far.

I've never heard a 110 that can keep up with a 112 box (even relatively small 112 boxes versus relatively large 110 boxes).

Also, those published SPL figures really measure mid response and not total volume or frequency range.
From my early testing, it seems like this cab is living up to my hopes!

@ electricimprov
do you have any pictures from that gig, that show Richard playing this setup?
I love Bonas playing and his sound from the first time I heard him. I play a fodera too, and tried a lot of amps and Cabs to find my own sound. I tried Ampeg, Markbass, WW, Epis and Agis and finally found Tecamp. Funny enough they are built 40 Km from where I live.

Exciting stuff for sure! Thanks for the claification and good luck with the testing.
FYI the site shows 29 for hieght on the 2x12 vs 25 on the 2x10...
