Tele Anyone?

This is a Tele-style project I just completed. It was started about a month ago, but I ran into a delay of several weeks on the Ultralite tuner order. The body is walnut-capped sugar pine finished with Danish oil. It's non-traditional in that it takes a neck with a standard rounded heel versus the old-school square heel.

The white pickup is a custom-wound stacked dual coil unit courtesy of Michael from Prima Guitars. It roars and sound great with the Labella flats. The neck is from a Mexican Fender P. One of the best things about this baby is that it weighs in at 7 lbs 6 ounces and balances perfectly.

Man, that's a beauty! Very nice work, I can find nothing wrong with that at all. I can say if it were mine, and I wish it was, I'd trim the headstock to a Tele profile. But just stellar work.

Love parts Tele style basses. Not that there's a wrong choice on your P neck, but All parts makes a rounded heel Tele neck, they do fine work if you don't mind finishing the fret ends yourself.

My only suggestion would be (and I've done this a few times with great results); to strip the neck, reshape the headstock and finish with Tru-Oil. Most times I hand-rub (many) coats w/ a wad of cotton T-shirt cloth, but I've used the spray too, and that goes a lot quicker. You just have to watch out for runs.

From now on, anytime I were to want a custom pickup, Prima is where I'd get it. Options galore and great communication.

I may be keeping my eyes open for a neck with a Tele-shaped head a rounded heel.

Though it's a maple neck, those old Fender and Squier Bullet Bass Deluxes have Tele headstocks and rounded heels . Unfortunately, those models are going up in price now, but it'll probably be cheaper to get one of the Squiers and steal the neck than buying a custom neck from Warmoth or somewhere else (make sure it's the full scale model and not the short scale, they made that bass with both and sometimes the sellers aren't clear on which it is). Great-looking bass, by the way!

Thanks to this killer Prima pickup, the sound can go from thump to roar with a twist of the tone knob. This was exactly what Michael at Prima predicted.
