Mmmmm.....Reeves. I've always said if I ever won the Megaball lotto, I'd get one + matching cabinets just to have it....and have my staff haul it around for me. Although in the real world, I've read that the 225 is somewhat more controllable / nicer sounding? That'd be an awesome setup if he can hook you up with 18s for it!

That sounds kinda great actually! I’m not doing much design stuff outside of our already established stuff at the moment. Between gigs, session work and some fun production opportunities, when I do have time to have fun in the shop, I spend that time doing designs I know will work for sure. There’s a couple prototypes in the shop I keep meaning to mess around with...maybe once it warms up a bit outside :)

Awesome. Keep me posted OK? I would like it about 28-30 " high so I can get the tweeters higher. The speaker is a very efficient 8 Ohm and has a lot of clarity so I am guessing the 2 x 2" tweeters will cover it. I don't know how these work in a sealed box. It is in a (Sonic) TL type cab now that is too bulky to bother with. So it would be super nice to have this re-purposed to get a nice matching cab for the C225 (24" wide)

I ended up purchasing the 1822 and the Tecamp head from 3rd curve last spring.
I sold the head. The cab stayed. It is my favorite electric cab. Paired with a GB streamliner 900. I have about 5 MAS cabs since I am usually playing upright.
I was surprised how similar the 1822 was to the mas 46. Very quick. No overhang. The mas went higher with the tweeter but the 1822 went lower. The 1822 is a very impressive piece of gear.
It can sound much bigger than it looks.
I’ve played a lot of 410’s and this just sounds so much better. Great job BNA

Man, I feel you! We’re in a somewhat awkward place with bass gear at the moment. Bass cabs SHOULD BE wide enough to accommodate every type of amp, because as we all know, there’s something undeniable about a great tube amp. Most still love em (here comes the rub), but very few still play them on a regular basis and won’t buy a 24” cab. That’s a lot of prototyping for something you’d sell maybe 2 or 3 pieces of. Sealed cabs, for that matter, while we’re at it! The 1822 is by far the worst selling cab I’ve ever made for the simple reason that it’s an 18” speaker in a sealed box. Something about that just puts folks off.
Funny thing is, I use mine on 90% of my gigs and can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone say “man, I love your tone! What are you using?!” When I tell em its a sealed 18” with two 2” mid drivers they say something like, “oh, yeah I’m not really an 18’s guy...they’re too boomy and muddy...” but you just said...oh never mind :)

Whoa! Thank you so much! To be completely fair, @JGR did all the heavy lifting on that design. I simply made a handful of prototypes until we both felt it was dialed in.
I totally get why you’d choose the Genz head over the Tecamp, personally. Pumas have a neat basic sound, but you’d better love that sound every time in every room you play. I just couldn’t tweak it enough to get what I wanted. Just kinda does that one thing, but does it fairly well. The Streamliner has that big ol’ hefty thing going on. A dear friend plays an STM900 through an 1822 and has been pleased for quite awhile. He was actually the first person to buy an 1822.
Anyway, so happy to know the 1822 is serving you well!

I get the Tecamp thing. I have a Puma 900. It’s a backup for the streamliner. I like it more for upright. Lately I have been bypassing the pre’s on my AI Focus and the Tec and just using the controls on my Broughton 2 channel pre. It’s got everything I need in it.

Wow, never seen that but I love Broughton stuff in general. I have his HPF/LPF pedal. Very famous for his audio quality. Bet that thing is awesome :)
For upright, I’ve been using the Grace Designs Felix pre (disclaimer: I’m an endorser) and really do like it. The DI gets solid reviews from sound people

It has been a good while ago, so you may not remember, but during our conversations about cabs... the F112 vs the 1822, I came really close to going with the 1822

1 meg ohm stereo input. Internal trim pots. 60hz med Q 12 or 15 dB reduction on the neck Pickup baked in. Tuner always on . The rest of the controls are self explanatory. One third the cost of the Felix. We spent a month working on the specs. The 3 month wait was well worth it. I got to pick knobs, paint color , and name it. Makes playing thru supplied backline a breeze. All the sound guys have been very happy with it.

That’s great to hear! I’ve been taking a break from building lately. The 1822 is such a tough sell, though it’s still my daily driver :)

I remember talking with you after selling my F210 about a build... I came very close to going with the 1822 over my F112 you built for me. Still love the idea of it, but size and weight were the deciding factors for me

Totally! The 1822 isn’t a tiny or lightweight cab, compared to the F112. In Baltic birch, the 1822 comes in at around...55lbs? I’ve had em come out as low as 53lbs using lighter weight bracing material, but for me 55-56lbs isn’t a huge deal for my applications. The baffle is 3/4” to make it as rigid as possible, but you do cut away most of the material for 18” speaker :)
The only other cabs I own are an F212 and a prototype sealed 212 with two Eminence 12’s and three 3” Faital drivers. I never got that one right, so it stays at home! May revisit that one day. Since I haven’t been building for awhile and am perfectly happy with my 1822, my spare time has been devoted to experimental eurorack based music. Playing bass through eurorack yields some pretty wacky results :)

The BNA sealed 1822 used a Faital 15FH500 which worked out quite well. Here is a build thread for one I had made.
