That is a weird reaction. When ever I tell people I play bass they normally ask me to be in their band.

I think that 80's clip was pretty good and I wrote it was in the 80's it because I figured someone like you would probably comment that it "seemed so 80's and out of date".

If you don't like it you don't need to watch anymore- hey you don't even need to post on this thread anymore! :hyper:

my "sense of pocket" is hearing something that MOVES me, not something that makes me go "wow look at his chops".

I am not knocking his timing (which is fine).. but playing in the pocket goes a long way beyond "landing on the one" and keeping in time.

It amazes me how negative some of you people are. List your albums and instructional videos here so we can check them out...:eyebrow:

This cat can play, do a search and see what else besides slap is in this guys arena of expertise. When you can play better than him, you can slam his approach.

Why don't all of the naysayers just agree that anyone getting the beauty of this instrument out there is doing something good.

All this talk about using or not using a technique or calling it cool or not cool is just an example of people not being able to listen to the personal artistic statement the musician is making. Instead they only hear licks and techniques, the value of which they project on theirselves (in other words, I can't do it, so it must be worthless). I think you're all a respectless bunch on nay-sayers, and as a professional musician, I hope my public will never have people like you in it. Instead I hope to find people there who can listen to a musical message.

BTW. I can't slap at all.

a) He is known as a bassist. You are not.
b) Regardless of your stupid ideas on what is good or bad, or what is unmusical or WHATEVER, he is a GOOD BASSIST. Better than you.

e) Remo - you're entitled to an opinion, but when you start stabbing at someone else you've crossed the line. Read Margaret Atwood's adress on the Responsibility that goes with Freedom of Expression, you might learn something.
f) Astrovic - You're just bitter because you can't. The very fact that you say you "can't" is disgusting, with practice ANYBODY can learn ANYTHING. Stop ragging on the technique, it's a part of the instrument whether you like it or not.
g) Suckbird - look up "amateur", and then look up "professional". He is a paid bassist, therefore a professional.
h) THIRSTYGUMS - Get over yourself.
