I live near Austin on Lake Travis. I play with The Mau Mau Chaplains(reggae) & Stop The Truck (original Country). Also with the great Freddy Powers Band & Britni Hoover. Stop The Truck tours in Europe quite a bit & the MMCs are Austin's roots reggae powerhouse. You can check us out at www.stopthetruck.com, www.maumauchaplains.com. Britni & Freddy also have their own sites with music downloads which feature my bass tracks. I also do many studio sessions for other artists along with commercials, movie soundtracks...etc. I work a lot. My gear lines up like this: Elrick custom 5 string, Carvin LB75F, MK Dragonfly III 5 (fretless), old Jazz w/Modulus neck, Wishbass 5 string (fretless), 78 P (fretless), Squier Jazz, Spector Legend 5 (modded). Amps & Cabs: Carvin BRX800 & Redline 1000w heads. Carvin 4X10 , EAW 1X15, Hartke 4X10 & 2x10, Bag End 1x15, PV 1x18.

Gig - Shake Russell Band

Equipment - Fender P, Modulus J, 1941 King upright, Clevenger, G&L L2000 fretless, Hohner and Bredlove ABG's, and several kit type basses.

Amp - Quite a few, but my normal rig is and Eden TT330 and Agular 1-12 w/horn cabinet.

I mostly play folk music and study classical stuff. I play mostly in the Austin, Houston, Dallas area and go up to Oklahoma and New Mexico from time to time.

Can't remember if I answered this already, so...

I live in Leander, NW of Austin. I'm playing with Chrome Wheels. Also attend a weekly Wednesday jam at Larry's Lone Star with members of Chrome Wheels, Track Five, The Blues Bucket, and 8 Ball Down, plus assorted others. The Knowbodys are on hiatus.

Chrome Wheels is on a sort-of hiatus, too, while our singer has gone back to school and is also working full time. When we play, we play all over the north side, plus Oak Hill. We'll be on Fox 7 in the morning on 11/19.

If you're in the area and are free on a Wednesday, come by Larry's, on FM 1431. All players are welcome. Music gets going around 8 or so, and we play 'til we're tired...usually sometime after midnight.

This is very cool, I was getting ready to start a new thread on this very same topic.

I play, what I guess would be labeled, psychedelic rock.
Here's the way it's been described.

"The vibe of the band: Imagine it something along the lines of The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, Can, Stereolab, Broadcast, The Fall, Gang of Four all headed for a psychedelic freakout."

I'm currently trying to get my pc up to speed so I can record a demo. From there I'll climb the "putting a band together mountain" and see what happens.

As I'm typing this, I realized that I'm in a true transition phase, because I'm also in the process of changing all of my gear. I have an Eden amp that's blown- and Eden says that they no longer carry the part that I need- and I have an EBO bass that I'm modifying while looking for another, more versatile bass, as my main player.

So, if any of my fellow Metroplex/surrounding area bassists want to get together and indulge our inner bass geeks, just drop me line.

Did you play at the Strand Street Saloon in Galveston a few years back? If so, I think I met you that night...you were playing the modulus, IIRC...

I can imagine, I used to live in the Med Center. I practice in the Woodlands with one group, Galleria area for the other... I drive Downtown everyday to work... My parents live in Missouri City... Few school friends in Katy and Pearland... Brother-in-law in League City... I pretty much just get over the fact that I'll have a 30 minute to 1 hour drive if I want to do anything with someone other than my next door neighbor. Houston is way to friggin large for it's own good. :(

Ha... Ain't that the truth... I play with a band who's studio is at I10 and the beltway right now. You ever play anywhere round town?

If by around town, you mean within 100 miles of Houston, then yes. :D

The original band usually plays at a crappy bar on Richmond, the Cellar Bar. It shares a building with a strip club. :help: I think we're playing there the 24th. He's looking for a replacement bass player if anyone in town is interested. He wants to start playing more shows now that his CD is almost done. I just don't have time for more gigs with him. He's also got a cover trio that I'll poke my head in occasionaly to mix things up. I wish I could keep playing with him, but I can't manage two bands. :( myspace.com/jeffcanadarock
