Good question.

I'd offer my place but I live in the midst of a bunch of medical students and doctors with sticks up their asses, wouldn't be too happy about a bunch of bassists drinkin' and jammin' till god knows when...

Austin-ish here.

Kind-a-sort-of-in-a-way-but-not-really involved in a gig. We had some stuff going really well, Texas/southern metal/rock, but got bored with it really quickly. Wasn't much room for creativity with such tight constraints. Now the guitar player and I are talking about going in a direction that isn't so narrow minded and one-sighted. Something indy-ish and inspiring to our imaginations, with plenty of a jazz influence.

As for my background, band nerd grade 6-12, jazz band grades 11-12; actual gigs have been mostly technically minded metal with jazz influences, viva la Dinah Incident!!!

I was at Mike Mordecai's jazz jam last night at the Elephant Room. Although that has been a weekly event since the early 80s, I've been out of town for a long time and dropped in last night after a long absence. My old friend Mike Koenning is now the house drummer for that event each week.

If you are in the Austin jazz scene, you probably already know about this, but if not, check it out - it's a great opportunity to get out there and flex your chops. There are young players in there; one guy last night was 16 or 17.

OK folks...

After the New Year sometime, I'll be having another pot-luck jam. Its pretty impossible to exclude musicians from the area...they can hear us in the canyons and up the ridges, and they'll just drive to the house. Or it'll get on the grapevine, and they'll come from Lago and Jonestown and Austin, too.

So...

If you like the idea of having ready-made bands to jam with...

I'll post when its gonna happen, and y'all drive out to the Gateway To The Hill Country and jam with us! Bring food to share, and some liquid refreshments, and your bass if you wanna. Or you can play one of mine. You can smoke, you can drink (don't get all wasted, please), and you can toke (if kids are present, this occurs outdoors, away from them), but *no* hard stuff (as if any of my TB brothers would ever do such a thing...silly me!). Just the house rules, is all.

Will post again when the time approaches...

Well...

Things are real up-in-the-air right now. We have to put a new room on the house for my mother. Once she gets here, having a party of any kind will be difficult. I'll be putting the jam room back out in the front of the house again, but...we'll have to see how she does with the noise, before I have anything, you know, organized. She arrives in March. Sigh.

So...if it goes down, it has to happen before then. I'm trying to get something going for the end of January/beginning of February, before work on the house begins and we have part of the north wall torn out.

Just did my last and final reunion gig with my old band. I would like to find a regular group to play with and gig from time to time.

We finally got a PA and we be gigging (two shows already -- next one is Jan 19th at Rack Daddy's in N. Dallas/Richardson).

By the way, for you Longview bassists, is Chip still hanging out around Longview (killer local bass player)?
Also, there's a local drummer that's very good at classic rock -- goes by the nickname Uncle Dallas -- he and I were in a high school garage band back in the day.

I used to live in Mt. Pleasant (and that general area) on and off.
