Texting before every Band Rehearsal...Should I???

We usually practice once a week at a studio we all chip in and rent out. It's a regular thing every Wednesday and I never really thought about having any issues with that. Well, last night, apparently the guitar play and the drummer were driving together and got into a minor fender-bender. No one was hurt, thank goodness, but it was going to take some time to do a police report and paper work etc. The singer had called one of them for an unrelated topic and learned about the situation and they all decided to scrub practice. No one bother to call me, so I showed up at the studio and waited around alone for 40 minutes before I started calling and texting and finding out the news.

We're all adults and all should know how to communicate. It bugs me that they did this.

So should I start sending a text every week to see if "Are we still practicing tonight?"

Something's not right with your timeline, unless you're somewhere it's already Thursday like Tokyo but then your avvy says Texas and it's only 4:27 p.m. Wednesday there so... not sure if this is satire regarding the other threads, but I'll take it at face value.

That sucks, for them and you, but it sucks worse no one told you rehearsal was cancelled. Since they've shown they're unreliable in that regard, yes, I would confirm every meeting right before you leave the house, and halfway there if it's more than a 15 minute drive.

I think a better course if action would be to text during practice to see if everyone is awake.

Yep, always! Band group text is the easiest way to go about it. Usually I’ll throw out next available days that I can get together at the end of the current practice. Then zero in on a set date and time sometime throughout the week and follow up and make sure everybody’s still good, either the night before or the at the latest the day of.
My band consists of the singer, working 2 jobs, the drummer in another band, the guitar player is a Dad with young kids and myself, which I work rotating shift work and sometimes get called in. So we all understand each other’s other commitments and we manage expectations accordingly. We all try to give everybody as much notice as possible if something comes up, to try and not waste any bodies time.

Sure, unless you are in a band with @51PRI …

I'm glad it's not me. I'm not one of these "kids" who was raised on cell phones.

One of my "rules" is: "If you have time to text, you have time to call."

What! We're in the third decade of the twenty-first century. Nobody should have to stop what they are doing to answer a phone for someone who can't be bothered to text . . . sheeesh

Yeah, you're right. I used to love those people who told me: "Don't call me. I only do texts." and would feel free to text me while I was driving (I was on the road, a lot) and get impatient, when I didn't respond to their text immediately.

Seriously, it is often more convenient for me to talk (blue tooth user) than to text (plus, I just abhor texting, full stop).

Oh, ok.

Nobody in my life does that. We all treat it like email. Like I said, the whole point is convenience. Not having to stop what you are doing to answer a phone.

Having said all that, I guess I am in the texting only crowd unless it's pretty damn important. BUT, that's the ONLY modern thing I do.
