Texting before every Band Rehearsal...why?

I grew up in a family where we'd agree to meet halfway between our places a month in advance (a 4 hour trip for everyone), and we'd show up - we didn't need to discuss something that was agreed on unless something changed.

Then I started hanging out with friends where you HAD to have a cell phone (20 years ago) to be their friends, because they didn't plan anything more than a half an hour ahead of time - if you didn't have a cell phone, you wouldn't know what was happening.

It's just part of how people operate nowadays - they figure someone might have backed out, and they need to confirm that things are still in place. Even if you don't think that way, they do.

Maybe he has the farthest to drive?

If so, unexpectedly canceling a practice has the most PITA impact on him. (Not saying the guy isn't weird, just saying this might be a consideration.)

Texting got out of control for us, so we set up a discord server with separate spots depending on topic, e.g., rehearsal plans, gig planning, suggested new songs, jokes and BS, etc.. Works well for us…

A similar situation happened a few years ago. I had VIP seats to RADIOHEAD opening for REM concert @ Nashville’s Starwood Amphitheater.

A friend insisted on having everyone at my house (closest to the venue) & he was more than happy to drive the group in his van.

Everyone but “Will” was on time at my place. We waited til last possible minute to leave.

We were seated basically as Thom said good night Nashville. I called Will & he sleepily answered . Oh . That was tonight? I forgot. Not only in this case did a desirable ticket not get used, the rest of us missed a great set.

Different situation but lends credence to making sure the event is on .
