Texting before every Band Rehearsal...why?

Better that than one member we had who was told many many times that we practice every Monday. When he didn't show up (often) we would call him and ask "Where are you - you should be here". He would say "Are we practising tonight? Someone should have texted me". He was a great singer but one of the stupidest people I have ever met. The BL called him "a waste of space". We put up with him for about 2 years because he was such a good singer, but after that time it was too high a price to pay.

Haha, an old bandleader of mine had his own name for these people, "f***in' failures."

As the OP preempted, I'm one of those people that doesn't rehearse much/at all with my band(s). But I'm on the board of directors at my co-op and if I'm not at a meeting 15 minutes early, my phone starts blowing up, I get a knock at the door, it's like the world is ending. I KNOW THERE'S A MEETING, IT'S ON MY CALENDAR. I'm not 7 years old jeeeeeez, I know where I have to be and when.

People make mistakes. People forget. I think one of the biggest problems in group projects (yes, a band) is a lack of communication.

There is nothing wrong with confirming a rehearsal or show time. I'd rather deal with a periodic text beforehand than jump through hoops at the last minute because the guitarist forgot the show was tonight or couldn't make it and didn't tell anyone.

I dont think it's fair to get angered by someone asking for assurance or confirmation
Just because yall talked about it the week before doesnt mean that something didnt change without it being communicated (which happens to everyone occasionally)

We do, and it’s a good thing we do.
In the last year I’ve shown up at least twice to loneliness because I didn’t see the text.
So a text wouldn't have made any difference?

The guy who needs constant confirmation seems to be a flake in your viewpoint, assuming I'm reading this right.
No, he isn't a flake. He's pretty much anal retentive as I posted above.

Maybe he has the farthest to drive?...
No, he actually has the shortest distance to drive, other than me.

:wideyed: :roflmao: :roflmao: funny!
@51PRI, a common theme in your threads is that you are unhappy with your band.
Isn't this the place to talk about band problems, a.k.a. "management?"

Maybe what this is really about your relationship with your phone.
I do not like my new phone.

You will probably have more success trying to let it not bug you.
Yeah, probably.

You are putting more effort into a thread about an unwanted text than just replying “Y”
I really haven't put a lot of effort into this thread.

I have rehearsals at my house all the time. I really NEED to know if someone can't make it so that I can make other plans. Yesterday at 1:30 I texted the bandleader to ask if we are still on. He checked with everyone else, turns out the drummer had a gig. On a Monday. Go figure.....
Well, sure, but it's up to the person who can't make it to let everyone else know, ideally as soon as they know they can't make it.

Our start-up band has been rehearsing on the same night of the week since we started it. We all know it and we discuss it at the end of each rehearsal. Even so, one member of the band will always text on the day of practice "Are we still practicing tonight?" We're all adults and all should know and remember about band practice. It bugs me that he keeps doing this. Why does it bug me so much and how can I get him to stop doing it?

(I know a lot of you don't rehearse but that isn't the topic here, okay?)
What’s wrong with confirming an appointment? What bugs you about it?
Especially if the guy is traveling some distance to get to your rehearsal.

I don't know what bugs me about it. Well, I do actually. We're all adults and should all be able to know that rehearsal is every Monday night, or whatever, UNLESS someone can't make it. And if they can't make it they will text everyone to let them know.

As I said in my previous post he has the shortest distance to drive other than me.

Why does it bug me so much....
 that's between you and your confessor...good luck!

Google “belt and suspenders.” Our drummer does something similar… he reaches out a day or two before rehearsal just to verify everyone is still coming (we rehearse at his place). Honestly, I appreciate it.

As to your first question, I don’t have a clue why it bugs you. Have you considered therapy?

If it's an iPhone I think that's understandable. My phone is nearly 6 years old.

I've considered BEING a therapist, but I'm too old for that now.

He is trying to keep open and clear communication
. I am totally that guy. Too many times have I been cancelled on the day of, or even worse, after I was already there.
It's just a text, and it is better than having members with @#$& communication.

In my opinion you should be happy about it.

Because 'some' people are so unreliable that dealing with them is necessary and/or became a habit because of it.

Can't keep up counting how many times I drove an average of 30mins /1hr back and forth for a gear I saw on fb marketplace, just to go home empty handed because no shows.
Not even responding why not appearing...

In our band, "I" am the member confirming each week, if there is a practice or not.
Why?
Because we have a "standing" practice schedule.
Every week it gets re-scheduled, by the very person who selected the existing schedule.
So--- each scheduled rehearsal day, I ask for confirmation via text.
Two of the members will flog me for asking the stupid question, and the third informs us all,
in the 11th hour , that he can't make it for some reason. Then starts the flurry of texts where
everyone is working out what day we "can" meet, which usually turns out to be the following week.
I sit back with some popcorn and watch it all play-out, like it did the previous week, with the decision
to get back to the standing schedule, starting the following week. In the meantime, we should all learn
the latest 10 new songs previously selected for this week, and be ready for next week.
Believe it or not, we are very popular and in-demand. We make good money each week.
I wonder what we could accomplish if we actually got organised and focused.
Musicians . . . .
