Texting before every Band Rehearsal...why?

Well, sure, but it's up to the person who can't make it to let everyone else know, ideally as soon as they know they can't make it.

In your hypothetical perfect world, sure. But that is not the world I've ever lived in, especially when it comes to musicians.

I figure I have to accept people as they are, warts and all, or keep them out of my life. Keeping them out of my life would cost me some great gigs with some excellent players if I'd gone that route with every person I know who has flaked on a rehearsal date and forgotten to mention it. It takes up very little of my time and energy to prod them to provide their intentions for the day. No harm, no foul, everybody is happy except for you, I guess :)

Our start-up band has been rehearsing on the same night of the week since we started it. We all know it and we discuss it at the end of each rehearsal. Even so, one member of the band will always text on the day of practice "Are we still practicing tonight?" We're all adults and all should know and remember about band practice. It bugs me that he keeps doing this. Why does it bug me so much and how can I get him to stop doing it?

(I know a lot of you don't rehearse but that isn't the topic here, okay?)

Get over it. He isn’t doing anything wrong.

In our band, "I" am the member confirming each week, if there is a practice or not.
Why?
Because we have a "standing" practice schedule.
Every week it gets re-scheduled, by the very person who selected the existing schedule.
So--- each scheduled rehearsal day, I ask for confirmation via text.
Two of the members will flog me for asking the stupid question, and the third informs us all,
in the 11th hour , that he can't make it for some reason. Then starts the flurry of texts where
everyone is working out what day we "can" meet, which usually turns out to be the following week.
I sit back with some popcorn and watch it all play-out, like it did the previous week, with the decision
to get back to the standing schedule, starting the following week. In the meantime, we should all learn
the latest 10 new songs previously selected for this week, and be ready for next week.
Believe it or not, we are very popular and in-demand. We make good money each week.
I wonder what we could accomplish if we actually got organised and focused.
Musicians . . . .
I'm kinda done with this stuff. Unless it's an important show I will tell these kinds of people I'm only available on the date and time we chose. Suck it up and wait a week but I'm not moving everything else around for your benefit.

In the band where everyone's reasonably responsible, I'm a lot more flexible because they have enough courtesy to let us know when something is conflicting and we usually work it out well in advance. As an example, the band that would normally be practicing on Wednesday this week is moved to Thursday because a member will be out of town. But that was planned a week ago, and I expect everyone will still be able to do it.

Even though they are generally responsible with their calendars, I will still send a confirming text tomorrow or Thursday just to be on the safe side, because that's what responsible planners do, and nobody should get their panties in a twist over it.

It is a bitch to type and send yes or no. My sympathy bro.

I'm pretty sure the OP is not even the BL. He isn't obligated to respond at all.

Apparently just having a text appear is an affront to his sensibilities.

In my world, full of very busy people, every meeting is preceded with reminders and confirmations. This is the norm because no one can afford to waste time on a cancelled meeting or a meeting with an essential person missing. This is what normal people do.

is this an annual topic? This very same question was posted in Sept. 2022 by the same OP.
Why Text every freakin' time to ask "Is practice still on for tonight?"

A txt bothers you? Really? How does this affect your life at all?

I cant wrap my head around someone getting bent out of shape over a txt.

It’s always ok to double check.

Well, it’s a start up band and maybe he’s been through the circus before and like many have mentioned here he doesn’t wanna waste his time packing all his stuff just to get somewhere and be told somebody cancelled at the last minute …once you guys have established a routine then maybe he can trust that if he doesn’t get a text that it will be a given you are jamming
