I thought I was the only one that had one of those.....

I've had 2... still have this one.

this one was a black with cream binding model before the previous owner did a hack chrome foil job on it. It will be back and photo worthy soon (I know I've threatened that before ). My first real bass was the red one with just a P pickup.

I had one of the red single P's also. I painted a diver stripe across it then put a Kahler whammy on it.Both models played and sounded great and they can still be had fairly cheap on the 'Bay.

My camera just farted out on me last week, but I can say that I have a Steiny XL-2. It's an '87 and it's creamy white!

Made in 1988 by Larrivee.

4 string. Neck through body. EMG active pickups. Shaller bridge and tuners and straplocls.Dynamite sound and plays wonderfully.

Around 1989 I had Larrivees in 4, 5, & 6 string electric models. The six was a fretless in a midnight blue with gold hardware that was completely beautiful in every way. Had to part with the 5 and 6 years ago. Would do anything to get them back. I kept the 5 string fretless acoustic I had Jean make back then. I will never part with that one.

the wife scored the 'foiled' one of eBay for me for about $300 a couple years ago now.

Niiiiiice. I played my '88 XL-2 (black) out last night and was floored by how great it sounded in the mix. It'll be coming to many more gigs in the future.

We want pics of your white one some day though.

Yeah, that's the reason I hardly ever use it in a performance. It plays wonderfully, but, you know...

I got it for $330 in an estate sale about 3 years ago in Spokane. Man, I love it when remaining family members know diddley-squat about instruments!

Instead, I use one of the wooden spirit XT models for gigging and traveling.

Here's my 1985 Precision (MIJ) w/Bartolini pickups & gold Badass II bridge, 1988 Precision '62 reissue (MIJ), and the 1986 Kubicki Ex Factor (I rescued it from a St. Louis pawn shop in 2000 for $600).

Man oh man!! All these pointy headstocks, reverse-P pickups and candy gloss paint jobs are really taking me back. (Back to an era when a bungalow in this town might have still gone for 5 figures.)

Fully half my electric arsenal comes from this era... I think.

I think the Yamaha BB1600 is from the '80s. It's MIJ and certainly has that Japan Golden Era glow. I know from the serial # that the Steinberger XP-2 is from '87. The Warmoth "Wide" 5 is supposedly from '88.
