The speaker cab you have is called a 106. Fix that speaker jack before it fries the amp! You're 470 looks very very clean. They are truly wonderful amps and when you get a chance plug a guitar into it and run it into a decent guitar cab. You'll be pretty amazed at how such a great bass amp can also rock the guitar ( or is it the other way around?).

If you can find an Acoustic 404 ( 6-12 version) you'll be in heaven. I have one ( two actually...) and it like a SVT on drugs. And I'm talking the old vintage SVT's not the newer crap that has the name stuck to the front. The 404 has very tight/ballbreaking lows and midrange that will decapitate you.

I picked this "144" up through craigslist today for $160. It could use a little cleaning but otherwise in great shape.

Has there ever been a definitive answer on whether playing bass through a 104 cabinet will blow it up? I've read a lot of people saying not to do it, but this post from Harvey over at the ACC forum would seem to contradict that:

Just picked up a 470 today to go along with my Acoustic 2X15 (Don't know the model of the cab though)

I'm pretty happy with it. Need to replace the speaker output jack soon. I think that's what's making it so crackly on the big resonant notes. But the tone of this thing is killer. Not much for a clean amp, but I like it that way.

Well, here's the deal. I saw an Acoustic B100 on Craigslist with no picture a couple weeks ago. $125. Today I was driving through the area so I offered him $100 sight unseen on the phone. He said $110. I said okay. If a friend needed a bass amp, I figured I'd sell it to him for what I got into it. Or resell it for $150 or $175. Enough about that.

Got it home. Plugged it in. Wow! It has a great tone and is plenty loud for practicing with a band at reasonably loud volumes. I'd use it on stage in a small venue and feel confident in my tone. Acoustic has a tone of its own and I remember it well from years ago. I like this little amp. Not ready for a number yet because I can't say for certain if I'll end up keeping it; if I ask for a number later it will be because I did.

Hi all, I have a B100 that occassionally resonates when playing g-string on 10th fret. I'm using a Jazz bass with emgs. It doesn't resonate all the time so it may be room placement and gain related to a degree. I do notice that if I put my foot against the back of the cabinet the resonation is dampened. So I opened the cab and noticed it has braces on the sides and back. The braces are placed into routed slots in the side and back panels. The back one seems to be loose, but not to the point of falling out. Should that be glued in place or is it free for a reason? I suppose I could run a bead of hotglue down each side to hold it in place.
what do you think?

Hot glue isn't as good as you might think. If the unit is still in warranty - you might consider getting an exchange unit first. However if not - they you can fix this pretty easily enough.

A brace that 'floats' isn't a brace, it's a spacer and I can't think of a reason for a spacer in a cabinet.

I'd put the cab on it's back (you said the back brace is loose - right?) and use the woodworker's glue - an aliphatic, yellow-type, in the intersection of the brace and the back board.

Perhaps even thinning the glue a bit with some water to get it to seep into the joint a little better, I'd leave it for at least 24 hours.

I'd also put a second coat on the joint after that time period too although that might be overkill and only worth a small percentage of support for the joint. I'd just feel better if I did a second application - but that's prolly just me being mental.

Just want to add after a few dozen gigs that the little 200w Acoustic B200 1x15 combo I've been using has received a number of compliments. The last one from a guitarist was, "man, I can't believe the sound you get out of that thing" when I was using it along with my P bass copies on his gig.

I believe that you will find Talk Bass as an exciting asset to playing bass. So many topics and many, many more opinions.

There are more than a few from "OZ" here on T B..Look around and eventually you will "meet" them.

Talk Bass Acoustic club sometimes gets a little more traffic than the "unofficial Acoustic site". Some of our other Acoustic site bretheren have joined here as well, although we aren't an overly chatty bunch; wheter here or there. I typically reserve comment whether on Talk Bass or Acoustic site unless I have something to add.

I have "met" many great folks here and I enjoy reading comments and insights from many, many more. Sometimes I may disagree with some; I stood up for "Vetchking"; George Grexa, as often as needed when his Acoustic amps seemed like no more than an "urban legend".

Well I had to sell my B450 and a bass today, and my girl broke up with me this weekend! Not going good so far. :'( Anyways I will keep my membership though because is till have my vintage Acoustic 140 and my B10 amps. I plan down the road in a few months, if my finacial situation is better like I think it will be, getting an acoustic 410 cab for the 140. Funny thing is the 140 was given to me and the guy had no idea if it works? So when I get the cab it will be a test. If it does not work I have two options then, get the b600 head or send the 140 out for repair. There is a place in Grand Rapids that came highly recommended to me. On Stage Services, does anyone here on TB in the GR, area know anything about them? There is a $60 bench fee. That is Grand Rapids, Michigan by the way.
