This might be old news but I just stumbled onto it. These guys build speakers using the original Altec designs.

Yes. The 16 5 I was working on for a long time, the G120 I payed two weeks ago. Yesterdday picked them up. Tomorrow the 220 and 402. My bank account is bleeding, hopefully no 370s or 320s popping up, I need recovery time

GC sells a set of Ernie Ball replacement wheels that can drop right into existing sockets or you can replace those also. They were $40-60 I forget how much.

My 402 came used from GC fitted with EV Force 15's. Apparently in that same process it went from Acoustic's nifty floating strategy to being bolted in.

Fully tested at home it sounds great and I can fully understand how this could become a desert island fave. I have yet to gig it so I'm not quite fulfilled, but big cab gigs are 1-3 times a year lately. Might take a while.
Maybe 330+402 (with Black Widow bass
The 330 + 402 is the ultimate Acoustic combination, probably what I tinker with most out of my collection lately. Might have to score a Black Widow bass one day.

The guy who sold it bought it as a showroom model and hardly used it ever since. I dont think he knew it was a bass rig, he used it for guitar. The look on his face when I pulled on the wheels and took one out
right then he knew I was there with a good reason and maybe could have gotten more out of.the deal
Based on what Ive read I got the holy grail bass cab now. Now its really a matter of scoring a 320/330 one day, besides the obvious 360/361 371 combos which will too expensive for me
320/402 still gets the gigs for me. I'll bring the 408 occasionally for larger venues. I'd love to be using the 371 but mine needs a little work.
I had a Black Widow briefly a couple of years ago but I let it go. It had a great sound strung up with LaBella 760FL flats but it was just too heavy for me. I imagine it was somewhere close to Peavey T-40 heavy.
On the subject of casters for a 402, these are the best ones at the best price I can find. They're rated at 100lbs per caster vs. the 85lbs or so the Ernie Ball. I've used both and these definitely last longer:

Truth be told, I've yet to find any pop out casters to be very durable with my 402. I gig that cab about 100 times a year and I'm lucky to get 6 months out of any of them. The biggest problem is the housing for the casters breaks apart easily. The socket that holds the caster will break free from the ring screwed into the cab so it's important to always be gentle placing the cab on the ground. You're also better off picking up the cab and carrying it over brick or stone or any other rough terrain as any of that wreaks havoc on them. The rusty old original casters on my 402 lasted way longer than any replacements have. They really don't make things like they used to.

So, learned today that a model 165 is fundamentally different than a 164 G100T. Need to find more info. Also, the 165 that I removed was heavily modified, it's fate will be a donor chassis. The chassis of the 164 is just perfect, extremely silent. Im in love
