The All New Julie Slick thread

Sorry to keep rubbing your nose in it, Tat2dHeart.

In case anyone else is paying attention: Four new shows have just been added to the tour, in some of the cracks between Dream Theater shows, that will be Crimson ProjeKct only. According to Tony Levin's site, these will follow the structure of last year's shows with separate sets by Stick Men and ABPT in addition to the double-trio. (See adrianbelew.net for the most up-to-date schedule.)

Evidently they survived the Godzilla attack (see above), because Julie and the band really brought it last night at the National in Richmond. I went in thinking that a 45-minute set would be disappointingly short; I came out thinking that a better word would be "mercifully." I certainly enjoyed the sextet part of the show on last year's tour, but my favorite parts of the show were actually the separate Stick Men and ABPT sets. This tour's version of the double-trio is way better, IMHO. They clearly decided that if they were only get 45 minutes, it was gonna be a helluva 45 minutes.

Here's a pic of a memorable moment: Just as they started the closer "Indiscipline," all of the lights went out. They continued to play for a while in total darkness, and then the house lights came on and they finished up with house lights and no stage lights. Coincidentally, they happened at the moment to be in a section of the song during which the two rhythm sections (Julie/Tobias and Tony/Pat) were engaged in an epic battle of trading fours, so Julie had a moment to snap this photo:

(BTW, I'm the one, just to the left of the center of the photo, waving at the camera.)

If any of the remaining tour dates are in your neighborhood, go see this show, whether you stay for Dream Theater or not.

Just saw Crimson Projeckt opening for Dream Theater. Honestly, never heard of Ms. Slick before now, but she did a great job in the Projeckt! She even got a nice bass-solo thing over Mr. Levin's Stick-Vamp! Color me impressed.

Consider yourself so colored, and welcome aboard!

Based on your profile, I gotta say that you owe it to yourself to check out Julie's work over the last few years with the Adrian Belew Power Trio -- including the live albums and the epic studio album "e" -- as well as her solo stuff (the second album of which is due to be released shortly after this tour).

I'll do that. Thanks for the recommendations.
