The Awesome Show Off Your Amp Thread!!

AND.....WIN!!!!!

about a year ago i got annoyed at all these "boutique amps" that cost way more than they should because they are custom made and maybe have magic bass dust sprinkled in the cab. so i thought it would be fun to put together my own luxury boutique practice rig and put em to shame lol. the preamp is an avalon 737sp,(2k) the amp is a mcintosh 275 gordon gow (4k), 1.4k of tubes (vintage gold lion kt88 and mullards) , silver plated copper siltech wires, and a 1956 jbl (all original drivers) hartsfield speaker in near new condition (12k). i think the folded horn inside is 7 feet in length. it sounds incredible. figured id show it off. johnny a. / staind

Such awesome amps in this thread! So much gear!
I just have one tube head and one 4 ohm cabinet. :D Good enough for me. That's all I need. It's kind of nice being "somewhat" GAS free.

I'm mostly using this setup these days:

as much as your rig does make me insanely jealous, and want to go take out a bank loan for a hiwatt 400, the small piece of happiness i can take away from your post it that my really old soundcity still has its original GECs made in the uk :D, but alas i would still rather have your unbeleivable rig. If this thread continues for much longer you may see a homeless young man on the news pushing a trace v8 and 8x10 or a hiwatt custom 400 with berg 4x12, or aguilar db751 with aguilar db412 :D

Man, that looks incredible!!

How heavy is that cab though? Is it meant to be pretty stationary, or is it viable to move around?

I also totally dig the head... it's like a great combination of new and old... i bet that rig sounds amazing!!

thumbs up!

the cab is about 220 lbs. i wouldent move it around because it is rare to see them in that good of condition. there are no chips on any edge, or scratches. hard to believe for 60+ yrs old. i actually considered buying 3 or 4 of the modern reproductions for stage use, but i think without being in the corner of a room (as they were designed for like most horns ) they would not sound the same. johnny a. / staind

Here's my current rig, that I used to record Exciter's latest CD: Death Machine. on the left is my 1974 Marshall Super Bass into my early 80s Marshall JCM800 Bass Series 2x15 cab (model 1551). On the right is my 1973 Super Bass into my early 80s JCM800 Bass Series 4x12 cab (model 1520). I ran my bass into the low Channel 2 input on the 73 head, than daisy chained it from the high Channel 2input to the low Channel 2 input on the '74 head.
