The bass you've always wanted?

I already have what I always wanted. A Fender Jazz bass (or two). I also have a Precision and a G&L. There are fancier, no doubt better, no doubt different basses available, but these fill my needs.

I will always want more, because more is better, but I don't want more the way I used to. :D

The bass I've always wanted isn't ONE brand of bass.
The bass I want has no paint.
No pickguard.
No chrome.
It has a natural figured dark wood body.
With gold hardware.
Those features can come from any maker.

These are the basses listed below.

If a brand makes one,I might want that bass.
But most makers don't make what I want in full.
So I have to take a bass that's almost there and make it what I want.
If they don't,I won't look at it.

I have the Basses I want. 2 American Standard Precisions. That being said, if money wasn't an issue, I'd get a Fender Custom Shop Sean Hurley Signature '61 Precision Bass. It retails at $6,400! I'd never take it a gig, though.

Ever since I was a kid and eyed the fretless Precision in the Fender catalog, I've wanted one, a sunburst one with a black pickguard, just like in the catalog. In 1976, \when the neck on my 60s Jazz started to curl, I bought a fretless neck. I've been playing it ever since. Recently I started looking for a P body to bolt my old friend neck to. Bought a MIM Precision. I just can't bring myself to switch the neck on old faithful after all these years.

I really like the P the way it is too. So I guess I'm done wanting.

Of course, if I ever found an original 70s fretless sunburst P that I could afford, I'd be tempted.

When I was ~14 years old I saw an Alembic Series I in a Musician's Friend catalog -- this was back when print catalogs were a thing and Alembic Series I basses were only $1600 -- and I've been jonesing for one ever since. 40 years later it's still my dream bass.
