I am very flattered you guys all are willing to pitch in!
and hey someone will get a bass and with a few hundred bux will be a killer!

I am not sure yet, I have put this whole thing back in the box of my subconcoius for the last few weeks until I got over "being angry!"

Lets kick it around.
I really just wanted that bass done right!
I dont know who would have to do the lottery,
talkbass, my exotic wood brokers or brian at the lowend?


Maybe I got off track, its late and I have been working 24/7
not sleeping, and its my sisters wedding tomorrow!

I say this because she had been crying about gettting married for the last 7 years and now its going to all be over,-The insinuation WASNT that thered be another
GOD HELP ME! if she ever gets divorces like everyone else around here

Where I live the divorce rate is over 50% if you can believe that!)

pros: excellent feel,tone and playibility

Con:
oily as hell -I fixed this already
battery cover didnt fit snug - I also fixed this
inlay is on the wrong side and not exactly what I told him to do
wooden 2 pc bridge is an obviously a "minimum he could do" operation.
wrong strings (e-c not the B to g I play so i had to buy new strings)
forgot the "e" clips for the straplocks so I had to buy them too.
oil finish so my rare as hell awesome ziricote looks like mud
(he told me this after he had already glue it up- now I am going to get it refinished in poly.
the commumication almost drove me to fly out there and hurt him.
it took 3-4 years
the midbody was supposed to be maple and its wenge (but in light of that the wenge sounds GREAT!


thats alot of cons to 3 pros.
if I was to buy this bass now it would be a smokin bass and experience.
having been here through all of that bull**** its tough to hold this bass up on a pedestal.

I think chris benavente, chris stambaugh, carey nordstrand all make just as good if not better basses than this one. and chris Stambaugh would make you the bass for half of what I payed

You waited all that time and the thing came through like that? I've seen a lot of his work but this is the first I've heard anyone write in their review like this.

som they dont match and are the wrong size.
I just bought a few sets of discontinued slowwounds from a fellow tberand I'll restring it right when they get here.

they are locking sperzels thats why the strings havent flown out at that short of a length.

and yes the inlay was supposed to be the 2 paws with 6 toes
where a pickguard would be on the front with the roman numeral I next to them the inlay was also supposed to be green abalone.
I sent him a picture of my stambaugh as an example of the paws and he never got back to me about it.
low and behold he just duplicated the inlay on my stammie!
its not the bioggest deal in the owrld and I am sure in a few days when I play it more the excitement of the great playing instrument will overtake my dissapointment in the whole affair!\


and confusion was no excuse I actually drafted a full size 1:1 drawing of the bass and inlay, all specs etc.
so there wouldnt be any confusion I even xeroxed a copy for myself. I should go find it!

Lemme get this right . . . you paid around 5 grand and it didn't even come with STRINGS????

So, his heart isn't in building anymore? Apparently his heart had no problem cashing checks, though.

I don't care how well a bass played--if it wasn't what I ordered, I'd expect a refund. Period. You didn't pay $5k to build someone else's dream bass. And, if he's tough to get ahold of, I'd have no problem dropping another couple hundred dollars on a plane ticket to show up at his door to "talk about it."

DITTO . . . Ken Bebensee, unless he arrives here with some kind of rebutal) has entered my #hit list.

If I were to contemplate spending that kinda dough I woulda at least went with Cliff Bordwell . . . now THERE are some sexy beauties. All Ken provided you was a Carl Thompson clone.

Screw him . . . he took the last $2K and is hiding out right now in the back of his hippie shack suck on a crack pipe~! There's absolutely no excuse. Ken practically had all the work done for him . . . he didn't even use the wood sent to him. And has the audacity to tell someone that he puts people on HOLD whenever a CUSTOMER tries to contact him.

BULL. This jerk would get a smack in the face in my neck of the woods. THEN he would STILL owe ALL the money back.

PERIOD.

I see way too much of this kinda thing happening all the time. Keep hitting that pipe Ken . . . you jerk~!

THAT is when YOU should have known to back out of having him do the job for you. By letting it slide past this point you let him know that he could take your money, and take his sweet ass time, and you would do nothing about it.

Now he sends back emails basically spitting in your face.

I don't know why I'm getting so worked up about this. It's none of my business anyway. If it WAS my business then Ken would be speaking from the other side of his head.

EXACTLY . . . I'd love to BUMP into him. And, of course, there's always friends of friends. A few phone calls from the right people and Ken can be ENTERTAINED by a few friends.

OK now I need some help on the logistics.
I have talked with a few of you PM

and it seems to be

hire an accounting firm to manage the money and legality of it
and to take orders/ sell tickets.

there can be a lower price so we might get more interest and you can buy more than one ticket.


how much should the tickets be?$25 with or without purchase limits?

should there be a cap on # of tickets or no. cap on fund raising or no?

I do need feedback, I dont know about how to get this started, I will call my accountant for my other 2 business and pick his brain. to see what were up against.
I would need the help of mods to get pauls blessing and a stick or redirect in my own forum to the seperate websight or maybe include brian B where the bass is currently at .

Thoughts?

Well, you need someome you can trust to run this and I think it should be limited to two tickets per person, TB members only (this way you can make sure that someone's grandma does not chime in on the ticket purchase), plus, you don't want the scammers in on this!

I think the money should go into a paypal account because it will be very easy to track the purchasers and each purchaser will have a paypal receipt for proof of purchase.

If you sell the tickets for $25 each you need 200 people to get to the $5k. I would also suggest a time limit on the availability of the ticket purchase. Maybe a 2 week window. If all 200 "tickets" have not been purchased in the allotted time you can open the ticket purchase back up to those who are already on the list whether or not they have the max of 2 already. If no one else wants in, the folks who have already bought can then buy additional chances. 2 weeks would be plenty of time to give most people the chance to be involved if they want to.

That's my 2 cents...call me tomorrow if you want to run anything by me.

It really is crappy the way the builder did you, but it is actualy a pretty hot looking bass. Only way i'd ever get a boutique bass is a raffle like this. hope this can be put together properly. and the winning ticket how u gonna choose it, put em all in a hat? how we gonna know someone doesnt' give you extra money on the side to say they win it? not saying ur shady like that but u get my concerns.
