Ugh. Too many.

I've got a Invalid Link Removed from Black Arts Toneworks. Prior to hearing it, fuzz pedals weren't my thing at all. But as soon as I heard it, I had no choice but to pick one up. I wrote a review on Amazon which pretty well sums up why I like this pedal...

"Imagine, if you will, a swamp. A feculent, humid, sun-deprived bog. In this inhospitable place are hundreds of long-dead, grey, limbless trees. Inside some of these trees are abandoned beehives. The closer you get to a hive, the more overpowering their stench of decay becomes. You, being kinda dumb, choose to thrust your clenched fist into the nearest hive, to conquer your fear of whatever could still be living inside. There is nothing inside. Much like the swamp itself, the hive is lifeless. All is rot. You remove your hand; it is covered in translucent, viscous black honey. You simultaneously recoil in horror and choke back the bile rushing up your throat.

This pedal sounds exactly like that except your bass tone. Thick and evil, but clear. Loud and unmistakable. Highly recommended for those who pride themselves on sounding gross."

Being in the UK, I'd try and get a Colorsound Tonebender Fuzz....I've been GASing for one of those for years, they are pretty stellar. I hear of people using the guitar one with no issues, but they also make a bass fuzz. Make sure you give one of those a try!

Hey! I'm 17 and recently in a band (playing bass of course). I was wondering if someone knew, or could work out, which bass pedal is used in the song Black Woods by the band Stoned Jesus. I have googled everywhere but can't find anything. Or if this is too difficult, could someone recommend the pedal that sounds really similar to the one used in that song?
Thanks!

Reviving dead thread because I just got my hands on an American Wizard Toneworks KNCKA Fuzz. It is incredibly full sounding and has a good range in the amount of fuzz you can get. Have not had a chance to use it a ton but immediately after clicking it on I know this one is never leaving the pedal board.

Used a Highway 1 P bass with stock pickup into a GK RB head and GK Neo 1x15.

ok, since the zombie has been re-animated... and there has been much new stuff coming to market in the interim... I'll put in a vote for IE Subterranea since it's got a unison square / sawtooth wave generator (i.e. fuzz), and for my nefarious purposes that octave below is nice to have in the same box.

I saw a couple mentions for EH micro synth. The BMS has an awesome array of fuzz-like sounds (square wave, octave up, octave down) that can be blended at will + a killer envelope / filter section.

The best is totally subjective but to me that means 2 things, sound/ build quality and versatility. If a pedal sounds amazing but is super limited then spending much $ on it seems like a waste to me unless that sound is tantamount to your tone. Likewise the most versatile pedal in the world is pointless without at least decent sound and build quality.

Based on those factors and price aside I say the best would be a modern 7-8 knob Zvex Fuzz Factory or a DBA Supersonic Fuzz Gun.

Both pedals are super spendy from their boutique companies sadly, at least 200-300$ if not more for some fuzz factories.

The good thing is people out there will clone them for you at a considerable cheaper price, I got a fuzz gun for 85$ locally and 2 factories for 50-80$ or so off ebay.

Clones can be risky though so it's important to find a reputable builder, thankfully there are many online who would probably ship a pedal overseas for a bit extra $.

You may also be able to find a local builder or even consider a simple DIY fuzz to start before trying a more modern/ complex build yourself.

AusTone Fuzz Nutz TexTone is my favorite fuzz. Based of some choice examples of the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face with a custom tone stack. Meticulously hand crafted to a tone freaks exacting standards by Austin's Hippie Guru repair buddy 'Vintage' Jon Bessent, he may be gone but never forgotten. Jon worked on everyone's amps and pedals for many years and sold meticulously hand crafted pedals to all those looking for that special magic.

Best is completely subjective, but the best I own is my Harben Audio Octave Fuzz. It's based on the 70's univox super fuzz and it can get pretty gnarly. Sounds great. It even has an internal pot to dial out the octave effect so it can be a straight up fuzz.

Mine is one of the first 40 produced when I helped successfully fund their kickstarter campaign; they sent me a sweet shirt and a big sticker along with my pedal. Great guys!

Man! You also have the XP boster! It's such a sweet boost for so little money! One of the best purchases that I've made in the last months.
