These are recorded direct, using either a Neck P-Style or Bridge J-Style Pickup with the tone on full. In the finger-style ones I play closer to the neck, and in the pick-style ones I play close to the bridge.

Djeezes dude relax! Maybe you should just use a more 'advanced' player that can play MP3 etc. Try the VLC media player for instance.

Umm, I listen to mp3s in Quicktime all the time. Or at least via the Firefox plugin.

Other than that, winamp gets the job done. Best thing? It's FREE.

I finally did some Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion Demos!

I decided to use the 4 settings in the book as well as an "X-Treem" setting that I use to use. Here are pics of the settings:

Note that the Level knobs position for the X-Treem setting is just approximate, just like the book examples.

Demos:

These have 4 parts each:
1st Quarter of File = Neck Precision PU w/ Fingers
2nd Quarter of File = Neck Precision PU w/ Pick
3rd Quarter of File = Bridge Jazz PU w/ Fingers
4th Quarter of File = Bridge Jazz PU w/ Pick

When playing with fingers, I played over the neck PU, and when playing with a pick, I played over the bridge PU.

This is of my (kind of pin dick) bass effects loop:

Ibanez BTB 400QM (both pickups on, flat tone otherwise if I remember) > Dunlop 105Q > Boss ODB-3 > Laney R3 (horn turned off) > Miked by Rode NT-3 > Audacity.

I've been running fuzz > wah for a while, it sounded ****, so I changed it and finally found that RATM tone I've wanted! Well, close enough anyway
