Out of all the Stingrays I have owned I have a preference for the two way EQ preamp and wonder if the loss of that would make me regret the change?

Quite probably. The Bongo preamp is very different from both 3- and 2- band Stringray EQs. If you use the onboard pre a lot, or to really shape your tone to be "yours", then you'll likely have some soul hunting to do on the new one to find the same tone.
That's both a blessing and a curse. I feel that the Bongo pre is part of it's versatility and magic. But, if someone is set on a Stingray pre (or any other pre, for that matter), moving to the Bongo will have a bit of a shock. Your tone is in there somewhere, but you may have to do a bit of digging to find it!

Personally, I'd say keep the Stringray you know and love, buy a used (or new if you can swing it! I'd recommend www.ThePerfectBass.com !) Bongo 6 (Mojo is selling his 6H for a reasonable price here on TB, and there's THIS) and try them side by side. Sell which ever you want to - or, more likely, keep both and rock on :bassist:

So the 3 Band Bongo is different than the 3 Band Stingray preamp?

Two things:
The 3 band one is only on the single H model. I'm pretty sure the center frequencies are the same though. I could be way off though, as I think even the 3 band Bongo preamp is 18v, where as IIRC the Stringray is always 9v.
The rest of the Bongos have 4 band EQs which is way different than the 3 band and the 2 band EQs.
You can always add in Piezo's too, which change the sonic landscape even further.

I just got a Sky Blue 6HH. I am really digging it. It is used but in great shape. The neck pickup is maybe 1/4" lower than the bridge, how does the Bongo come from the factory.

Also, does anyone have a pic of a Bongo that is the same color with a Tort pickguard?

Most gigs I have my Hercules 7 guitar stand at. 2 basses, 4 guitars in it - my guitarists and I share it just to have everything in one spot in a sturdy stand.
At home, I use Ultimates or just lean them against a corner in my studio.

Update.
This is a great bass, plays itself, monster tone.
But after one:bawl: day, this 6-string is not for me. I'm more of a 4 & 5 string guy.
It is dead mint, only two week old. never left my home.
A few hours playing time. New set of DR Sunbeams.
Bongo 6 case all the candy.
FS $1475.00 shipped USA.

The Black is a 7 lb 15 oz, 4H, 3-band eq, wearing flats.

I'm still rocking Ubos Bongo 5HH in silver. Thing sounds great! Wouldn't mind a HS so I could slap it. If anybody has a 5HS & wants to trade for a 5HH let me know. My disco\funk band makes using the 5HH a bit tough. I love the tone of the 5HH though... hopefully its not too big of a change

It's a pretty moderate change, IMO. I've had HH's and HS's, and prefer the tone of HS's. I want to get an HH back in the stable, but it looks like I'll be buying a house this year, so I'm saving for that.

Update... I've been refining the herd. Sold the gorgeous 5H DDII for the same reason I've sold the 15+ other fivers I've tried... 4-strings are home.

That being said... the Bongo 4Hp was my unicorn for a few years and I don't see my current candy red example going anywhere in the forseeable future. It is a joy to play, and the 4-band eq is fantastic with both the piezo and the magnetic pickup.

Hindsight is always 20/20... How I wish I could have funded a "Honey Roasted" or "Return of the Rosewood" 4Hp :bawl:

I'll definitely be watching the 2014 PDN offerings.

I'm still rocking the Bongo 5HH you sold me... sounds so damn good I consider selling my PDN Sterling 5 HH at times! Not that theres anything wrong with the Sterling by any means but its redundant with my Sterling 5HS.

I've seen the PDN Bongos come up for sale in the past, rare... better jump quick if you do
