The Builder from Hell

apparently he builds guitars for the stars!! How come I find this hard to believe. I am also happy to see that the US is not the only country to have delusional nutbags :smug:

Doing a special run of neck and body kits at the moment for $360 perkit body and neck design of your choice.

Can make you an ESP copy for example and instead of charging $4500 like ESP i can do for under $1500.00

Interesting?
Not all bad things can be said about de vries. Whether he built guitars for Mettalica and Rose Tattoo can neither be confirmed or denied by any web site article that I could find. A lot of artists are tied into promo deals stopping them from acknowledging other manufacturers. I made the mistake of recording my first hit single playing a Gibson EB1. It was a bucket of crap but Gibson jumped on board with all sorts of goodies. The truth is I had a guy from St Louis build me a batch of EB1 that played better & sounded better and to this day, seventeen No1's later and I still can't say anything.
How many of us have found that magic bass P-Bass only to discover it was made by Greco or Hondo and put a Fender logo's on the headstock. I did some time with Status Quo and their trademark tele's are a lot less Fender than they will ever admit.
But, I digress. Probably why I take medication nowadays to stop the shakes.
Recently I over saw a build with Eric and when he is given all the right hardware in advance and given clear instructions on what is expected then his work isn't all that bad after all. It's certainly better than the Ibanez Iceman ICB08LTD that was dumped on my bench yesterday. Will the Chinese ever develop enough skills to create a decent instrument and what idiot nowadays engineers a bass that weighs a tonne and does a neck dive faster than Ho on your doodle at a deep purple after gig orgy? I deny they ever happened. I'd put my devries bass up against this bucket of Kiss Inspired poop anyday and the devries cost $200 less. Perhaps he went thru a bad patch during his 'divorce.' Or perhaps, like me, he is the sort of guy who likes to stir things up just so you feel like you are living again.
Love the site guys.
Ajay, you rock dude.

Recently I over saw a build with Eric ...The finished product was a custom bass (details withheld to avoid paying millions in copyright violations) and tt's certainly much better than the Ibanez Iceman ICB08LTD that was dumped on my bench yesterday by my 15 year old son.

Would an artist risk a sponsorship deal for the sake of a little known luther from Melbourne. It would seem not.
In the 60's my father made the mistake of playing a Gibson EB0 in the film clip ( no video back then) for his very first hit single. That bass buzzed all over the place, the pickups use to fall out and it rarely stayed in tune. It was a buck of crap according to my father, who also had some choice words to say about McCartney's Hofner, but I often wonder if that was professional jealousy. But the importers at that time jumped on board with all sorts of goodies and my dad took the bait. Little did the punters know that the Gibson EB1's he later toured the world with were copies built buy a guy from St Louis. They were lighter, had a longer scale and didn't feel like a slab of concrete. Did my dad keep one? Nupe. He gave them to charity and swore he'd never touch another Gibson. Cranky ole bugger! He died in 79 and all I have is his 63 P-Bass. Yes, there truly is a God!

Now I put this question to you. How many of us have found that magic P-Bass only to discover it was a copy made by Greco or Hondo or Ibanez. Ever got the urge to put a Fender logo on the headstock.

But, I digress (did I spell that right - why doesn't this site have spell checker for yorkies like me?)

Recently I over saw a build with Eric and when he is given all the right hardware (in advance) and he understands what is expected then his work isn't all that bad. People who don't know what they want make it difficult to start with.

Ibanez, stop the obsession with mahongany.
My mother always said: "whenever you engage in battle, you must decide: is this the hill I want to die for?"

The moral of the story? Pick your battles carefully. Even a rudimentary glance at 'deVries' sheds some gothic light on his "craftsmanship", "ethics", "honesty" and "business sense".
