I think he's respectable because he knows what he's selling, and he knows that his tools and skills are not top notch, but is willing to accept it and improve on it.

I was happy when someone contacted his famous american pickup maker for some info. The maker responded, paraphrased: "The guy hasn't sold anything in months, and you'd better stay away from him".

I bought a guitar once that looked okay, nothing on the outside was a problem but it made no sound when plugged in. When I pulled the pick guard there was a note the read "by now you know your screwed". The electronics were a total mess, I thought the note was a nice touch though lol

Ok, so, I just checked out wishbass.

Is there something absurdly wrong with them? At a cursory glance, I would say that I wouldn't get one because the finish on their front page image looks tacky (sticky, not ugly), but that's just my first impression.

They're renowned for their "raw character."
