The Combo Club

Hello, is there anyone in here...in here...in here? Hmm, an echo. The clubhouse must be in lockdown in preparation for the monster storm system racing northeast across the middle of the country. To all our club members anywhere near the epicenter (my daughter's house in northcentral IA), batten the hatches, find a flashlight or two, and take care of each other. Let's ride out the storm together. Huh, Ridin the Storm Out. Someone should take that line and turn it into a song.

Musically speaking, how's everyone doing? I'm hauling out the Beatle bass and RB combo tomorrow for a 7:00 AM rehearsal because Jingle Bells isn't gonna play itself! I know, compared to most of you gigging-types, mine seems pretty paltry, but 400 kids are gonna love it throughout the afternoon next Tuesday almost as much as me back on stage after a two-year hiatus. I'll try and capture a rig pic for authenticity.

Check back with everyone once Mother Nature is done having her way with us Midwesterners! :nailbiting:

that was a good experiment, that was an enlightening experiment, and on to the newest experiment with .040 - .096 EB Group IV Flats. These are staying on through the completion of the next cohort. The cohort is 40 weeks long, and begins in mid-January. Lots of time to break in flats. Will likely keep 'em.

Musically speaking, haven't played out on over 2 months (pfooey). But I did practice with my Thunderbirds and Rumble 100 combo again the other night. Planning to again this evening after dealing with a dying cooktop and (hopefully) a bike ride.

Great day today…..moved my R200cV3 (Combo reference…) into the house along with the single cutaway JB I built last year in anticipation of friends coming to visit our new digs. She- yoga instructor and fashion accessories entrepreneur. He- (Hop) professional musician emphasizing upright bass, jazz and latin,etc, former owner of the P Jaco left behind at the NY studio when he never came back. So, after showing them around the new digs, Hop sees my bass. We talk about the build process and how it compares to other basses I have played. Then I turned on the Rumble and he picked up my bass. Immediately he went into playing Birdland and some other more classic jazz. First thing he said really made my day, he said it plays ‘como mantequilla’ (like butter). He really liked it and said if I ever build another guitar, make two and he would buy one! Made my day!!!

Probably, but a Rumble 100 is $50 less and is one piece @ 22#.

I probably should have mentioned that I already have a rumble 4x10 cab and rumble 800h. Was looking for a different sounding amp and always wanted to sample that svt tone but at a budget price. Again this is mainly used for home practice oh and I dig the cl stack appearance... is that wrong

No, not at all. I owned a 'blue line' SVT/810 rig. I don't want/like that tone and I hafta to make 2 trips-minimum- with what all I hafta set up. Thus the nice, light Rumbles(40, 100, 200c).

Since I couldn't find the time to do it myself, I threw a few smackeroons at a backstreet band somewhere, and with a little poetic license they came up with this...

It will keep up at a practice with a drummer. It gets LOUD and moves some air-

I have used it at a couple of outdoor events (block parties, community school cookout) even played Heritage Square Flagstaff, AZ with it!:bassist::woot:.

We are not belting out classic rock exactly- a bit of rock, country and bluegrass. But the CL looks great and sounds good. :cool:

Clearly their audio and video are out of sync ... by about six and a half years. Now that's some digital delay!

Now that's music...especially in a storm. We survived it with no damage, but not everyone was as fortunate in the state. Still, it could've been worse, and tell ya the truth, I didn't enjoy the warmer temps yesterday as much as I thought I would. It was humid and I think my body has become acclimated to the winter temps already. Today was only 37 degrees and I felt more comfortable. Now I know there's something wrong with me...

Set up on stage after school and jammed a few minutes just to hear how it sounded. The Cajon, which we miked, came in really nice over the PA, but Jordan said she couldn't hear me from the other side of the stage. So we're gonna DI me to the PA because we have side speakers on stage. Sheesh, you'd think it was a Dead concert or something. The Rocket Bass sounded good though, especially with the Grit button pushed in. It reminds me a lot of the Vintage button on the Rumblers, but not quite as boomy.

Tomorrow's Friday everyone just in case you forgot. The weekend is almost here! :hyper:
