Great day today…..moved my R200cV3 (Combo reference…) into the house along with the single cutaway JB I built last year in anticipation of friends coming to visit our new digs. She- yoga instructor and fashion accessories entrepreneur. He- (Hop) professional musician emphasizing upright bass, jazz and latin,etc, former owner of the P Jaco left behind at the NY studio when he never came back. So, after showing them around the new digs, Hop sees my bass. We talk about the build process and how it compares to other basses I have played. Then I turned on the Rumble and he picked up my bass. Immediately he went into playing Birdland and some other more classic jazz. First thing he said really made my day, he said it plays ‘como mantequilla’ (like butter). He really liked it and said if I ever build another guitar, make two and he would buy one! Made my day!!!

Does anyone here have any experience with the Ampeg Micro CL Stack? I am looking for a small practice amp for home use and the occasional travel to friend's house / studio. Will the Micro CL Stack keep up with a drummer? We play at medium levels and 80s n 90s rock

Hey there, JPS, nice to make your acquaintance! I owned the Micro-VR rig for a spell and thought it'd be challenged to keep up with a drummer at any but quiet levels and that's 150 watts into its 210 cab. The CL you're talking about is only 100 watts into lesser quality, but still decent, speakers. I'm not gonna say it can't be done, but you may be cranking the bejeezus out of it. At its price range, there's a lot out there to choose from, so depending on how big a hurry you're in you might want to keep looking.

In fact, if I was you, I'd go looking for a V2 210 combo at almost 300 watts on its own that will definitely hold its own with a drummer. It's a lot bulkier, but provides a great tone and is much louder than the CL. The fact that they're about the same price used, and there are many available in that category. Take a look before deciding.

Since I couldn't find the time to do it myself, I threw a few smackeroons at a backstreet band somewhere, and with a little poetic license they came up with this...

Very nice, swinkster, but I was more along the lines of REO Speedwagon, but hey, Comfortably Numb is also nice at the end of yet another hectic week in December. Three school days to go!

I have used it at a couple of outdoor events (block parties, community school cookout) even played Heritage Square Flagstaff, AZ with it!.

We are not belting out classic rock exactly- a bit of rock, country and bluegrass. But the CL looks great and sounds good.

Listen to this guy, he knows and is displaying the evidence. I must admit, it is a cutie! As our friend GP once said, you can never have enough Ampeg around the house! In fact, his constant rave-ups of the brand put some people off, but I like it myself. Makes me feel good that my hard-earned money has not gone to waste!

The combo amp that I miss the most was my brand new 16th birthday present Kalamazoo Bass 50 50 watt with 2 10" speakers. It was a really nice sounding amp with the neat feature that the control panel was in a pull out drawer that pushed in for travel or storage. It s one down side was that it only had a tone control rather than the preferable treble-mid-bass control on modern amps but this short coming could have been met today by the many excellent pedals and pre amps that could have been used in between your bass and the amp for better tone control. Given its weight, power and compactness I could really use it given my current needs

i have the vertical version of the Bass 30. It sounds a bit muffled, and struggles with the lowest notes on standard 4 string bass. I’ve always wanted to try one like you had.
