The Combo Club

My band had its first gig on the King's birthday. We did very well. But we used the other band's amps and drums so nothing to report here.

My own collection hasn't changed in a few years: a MarkBass Players School combo and a Rumble 15. Of course they are as different as possible: the MarkBass is fearless and unrelenting, the Humble Rumble a living room dweller. So now I'm thinking of buying something in between, and based on advice from this thread I'm leaning towards the Foxy Voxy.

OTOH the Foxy Voxy isn't up to competition with either of your amps.

I still love my li'l Foxy Voxy! But my step-son likes my Fender B-DEC, with the drum loops & modeling & stuff. For his birthday he wanted "something like that". But I can't part with my B-DEC. So, research led me to get him a Positive Grid Spark! Yes, it's maybe mainly a guitar modeling amp. But it says it can do bass guitar, as well. And danged if it can't!! Step-son is a bassist/guitarist like me and he's thrilled with it!!! :woot:

I've started out this way.

One of my earliest amps was a Fender Sidekick 30. Was just 30w but into a 12" speaker and really carried. I learned to play bass on this and did a lot of practices, but no gigs.

When I joined a gigging band, I picked up a Carvin RC210. That was fun.

Hard to see under our PA though.

More recently I have used an Acoustic B200 at small venues. Don't have any pics of that though... I've toyed with the idea of swapping the 4 ohm speaker out for an 8 ohm one, and then modifying the ext jack so that it connects an external speaker in parallel instead of in series... but I think if I'm gonna spend $400+ dollars to mod it and add an ext speaker, I'd regret not just selling it and buying something else that does the same thing without being a mod.

Oh, yeah... I had one more that I played out a few times on... was an Ampeg B100 Rocket. I loved it, but that was something my exwife took with her when she exed me. >< I think that's the last one.

Gee, as a veteran around these parts, I thought you would have just told him a Rumble 100 Combo ;).
That is on the short list. Was wondering about other options that have been well received lately.

He was impressed by my Phil Jones Double Four but new ones are out of his range.

My cheat was just to call up all bass combos at Sweetwater for $200-300, but what's the fun in that?

There are recent new products, with price increases, and also out of range. Maybe some of your friends, past and present, will offer alternatives :D:D.
