The Combo Club

Nice to hear from you again! Well, $2.46 is a good start.

Doc! I hoped you'd chime in. I'm like Haley's Comet...I return every 80 years or so. Yep, the Hofner and I have become one, and as I said, warts and all. I've never been one to back down from a good fight, and there are days when it tells me it doesn't feel like being played. I put a lot of time into playing it exclusively though, about three months, and I found it well worth the effort. When I need a P tone, I reach for the Sire, but I grab the Hofner for anything acoustic. As you can see in the image below at school last December, I don't mind dressing up when playing it either!

So how've you been? School done, I presume. What's your current amp gear, any new acquisitions? My birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and rumor has it I may be cabinet shopping. PJB or Warwick to go with my Gnome i Pro micro amp. It's super clean and is a great platform for pedals.

Thanks again for responding!

Thinking ahead for possible upcoming combo replacement for existing Carvin MB-210 and old school Ampeg B-1 combos, both of which are working fine. Everyone here might have a favorite or a 'don't even think about it' brand or model to share. Medium to small gigs, generally all DI capable venues. Presently everything fits into a VW Golf hatchback. Thanks for 2024 help on the matter.

Good to hear from you, and that the Hofner has become a good traveling companion.

Life is mostly very good. I am living with my lovely lady and we are raising our kids together. My career is going very well. We started a new diploma that I am the lead on and I am the president of a national organization. Being the president of the national organization put me on the radar of the Alberta government and they have gotten me to provide some feedback on legislation.

Music stuff is going well too. I have a band project with a couple of fellas I work with. Thankfully the GAS has subsided, and I am very happy with my gear. I still only play Hofners and Vox amps I've put together. Below is a picture of my main amp, which I constructed from parts. It sounds awesome! I have a lot of Vox amps I can combine in various COMBOS!

Always the alchemist! Good to hear of your successes, continue fighting the good fight for your students. UPDATE: I'm up to $3.02 for a 500/1 after getting change back from supper tonight! ;)

Fun fact: That phone number was valid in the Seattle area when the song came out, and while it wasn't her direct extension, there was a lady named Jenny at the company. Took them a while to figure out why they were getting so many requests to talk to her.
When I worked for Amoco Oil in Chicago in the '80s, my office number was identical to the J.C. Penny's catalog order number in Indiana, except for the area code. Back then, you only needed to dial 7 numbers if the call was local. I got SO tired of getting calls for Penny's from Illinois residents who didn't include the area code, that I just started taking orders. F'em. :roflmao:

Similarly, our number in Miami was the same as a restaurant in NYC. And we get a lotta Noo Yawkuhs in Miami. I took a few reservations.

The difference between want and need...

There are many "schools of thought" regarding ones ultimate bass tone. Two of the most extreme are:

1. I want one that will cover all of my needs.

2. I want one that will cover each of my desires.

I am happy to be part of #1 because #2 introduces one to the rabbit hole of bass and amp collection. I am happy to have climbed out of #2 ;).

A fair portion of my free spacebucks that could manifest gear go instead to bass lessons. That's 12 lessons a month for an extremely reasonable cost.

Hey everyone how's it going? I started playing last-year and as you see my 1st bass was my Dads 5 string Rouge and 50W Rouge amp. I finally bought my 1st Fender Jazz Bass and Rumble 800 and much to my surprise my Daughter got me the Fender Cabinet 4x10 1000w for my birthday sound killer. oh and thought I would try out a Squire P Bass really like it to. Thanks guys and I say you can hear the music but feel the BASS

Congrats on your gear journey, Will. And if you’re silly enough to think you’re all done…hold on, my friend, to your wallet!

Since I’m here, I thought I’d let you comboites know they I did indeed secure my birthday gift this morning and it ought to be here next week. I’ll post a pic in a couple of weeks after the festivities, but I’ll leave you with two hints.

1. I completely blame G’Dog and the voodoo he do on us unsuspecting types and B. I’m making amends for something I did many a moon ago that left me guilty and emotionally shattered.

Have fun and if you are trying to position yourself as the Club’s soothsayer, post a guess and we’ll see who wins a piece of cake!

*Yes, I am assured that "comboites" is indeed a real word, at least here in The Club, that is. Happy birthday, still-Fearless ex-Leader!

I am quite reluctant to say sooth. So, I'll let others have fun guessing at iago's birthday gift. But, I assure you, it's a good one!! ;)
