The Combo Club

Swapping out my BG-400 combo for the new BG-450 in many ways makes more sense to me than a new bass. I gain low mid and high mid controls, and it weighs in 9 pounds lighter. In theory and in practice, my local brick & mortar would give me a fair price for mine, which would bring down out-of-pocket costs for a BG-450 nicely. In reality, it's not something I need right now.

That thing looks nice. I like those EQ freq centers. PJ has been so completely off my radar I never gave them two looks. What size venue/type of band do you think this would cover?

Most any indoor venue with the C4 extension IMO.

Having a wide array of basses, amps, and whatever else makes you happy is always a smart move. Different tools for different situations. What I learned most was not to judge a product as worthless without giving it a fair shake first. The R40 has earned a place in my combo stable and when the situation arises again, I'll be sure to grab it and go.

Hope you enjoyed my travelogue. We met many wonderful people along the way and just might do it again down the road. PS: to Doc Intrepid: although I do enjoy playing my Sire U5 P/J bass, the Hofner has become my alter ego, lousy tuning and all. I've now started a savings plan to ultimately buy a German-made violin bass. At the present, there's $2.46. I've got a ways to go...

Fun fact: That phone number was valid in the Seattle area when the song came out, and while it wasn't her direct extension, there was a lady named Jenny at the company. Took them a while to figure out why they were getting so many requests to talk to her.

The original Suitcase Compact is a little different. It is nicely suited for doublers, which is why I am certain I will have no problem moving mine if I want.

It takes pedals very well. I use a VT Bass Deluxe with mine, and a HPF.

Interesting. In between the weight of the R100(22#) and the R200c(34.5#). Prolly not in between on price.

I never really doubted that it did actually happen! Oooo! And the echo of that church sanctuary is proof positive (unless that's a post effect you added?). Great acoustics! And Jackie has such a wonderful standout voice!! Love the arrangement of "Wayfaring Stranger", too! I've done that one with friends so many different ways, and find it usually works well with many different stylings!

Thank you, my friend, and Jackie thanks you as well. I had to look back at my Reaper file to see if I added a little magic to the master track, and while I did nothing at all to the single track recorded, I admit to "sweetening the air" a bit with a medium-sized hall effect. Still, the sanctuary acoustics were quite good by itself. "Wayfaring Stranger" was a nice piece, thank you. We learned it back in January or February without the luxury of anyone else. I'll attach the mp3 of that one where it's Jackie singing the entire song herself. It'll be going on our channel shortly. We had one afternoon of rehearsing and that was it.

Thanks again. The crazy thing is that seventy-some-year-old Mike sent us his ROUGH demo of "Holy Spirit" last December, scratchy voice and all, and Jackie somehow had to find a way to harmonize to it. On the day we went through it though, and at the service, his voice was golden and the guitar work was sublime. I think it was an old Martin if I remember. To put it mildly, I was excited, and that was before he began storytelling about Nashville! Paul, the music director, played a chorded rhythm but it was harder to pick out in the mix. Hey, I resemble those echo remarks! I, of course, was the only one without a mic. John admitted it was misfortunate but said, "That's show biz!" I replied, "That's okay, I cut your mic halfway through the song..."

PS: Thanks, I am enjoying retirement immensely and highly recommend it to anyone who is ready and can afford it. I realize every situation is different. It's so much fun to wake up each morning and plan the day around music and videos, plus lunch alongside the Mississippi. We've also begun collaborating with people on YouTube, one guy in particular from Japan. He sings and plays guitar on "Pearl of the Quarter" by Steeley Dan. It'll be out in June. My goal of recording with someone from Antarctica can't be that far behind! :woot:
