Cool combo! Would you like a Combo Club membership number?
Miles, you’re on fire right now. You are a combo magnet bringing to the club everyone who comes nearby. What’s your secret?
Hmm…a combo magnet? I’d see if someone in the special FX department can create you a club bass combo fridge magnet that everyone can display proudly.
I panicked for a moment when I read "bass combo fridge" since "magnet" was on the next line. Then I remembered I still have the Kasino. Close enuff.
Made me think of those mini fridges that look like Marshall amps….
Huh, I actually have a fridge magnet that Miles sent to me. It looks like a fish...and I think it has to do with peppers...?
You mean like this one, JPD? Yeah, I’m a sucker for Marshall. Too bad there’s not a ‘Peg version.
And if you’re wondering, the beer keg is on another floor in the Kasino fridge…

Here on a Friday night that certainly feels more like a Saturday night
to say (once again) what a beautiful amp the Ampeg BA108v2 is to my ears at practice volume.
It was sold as a practice amp, and totally no harm in that. What I hear is in large part attributable to the VT Bass Deluxe in "flip top" setting. It makes Ampeg "more Ampeg", and works brilliantly with this 99 spacebucks amp.
It is truly one of the best purchases I ever made, just in terms of how much work I get done with it.

I'm not an Ampeg fan-the 2 I've owned(SVT/fridge, B112)didn't impress me. But the B-18 I played through a coupla times was A-mazing. It was 'for sale'-

. Couldn't afford it.

Just for S&G, went a-googling. Turns out Carol Kaye played most of her bass lines on a P through a 7ender Super Reverb. 4x10s with an open back. Same amp I played the USN 66 EB-3 through. And don't forget the optional angled speaker I use when playing that little jewel. Also, the ability to crank the thing to "11" and hear zero whining from the speaker or amp. Yeah, maybe we both went a little overboard with a speaker over half of what the combo costs, but life's short, GP's still hates Ampeg, and I have an ingrown toe. That's enough reason for me to splurge on the little Eminence.

When I started playing again 10+ years ago after being away from the bass for the entirety of my university and working careers (and married life), that small Ampeg combo was the first amp I bought. I liked the volume control on the Aux input and the angled position when used on the floor. I didn't like the weight or the tone, which seemed a little tight to me. I probably didn't use it enough for the speaker to open up. I replaced it with just-released Rumble 40 and 200 combos. Those both sounded better to my very amateurish ears.And don't forget the optional angled speaker I use when playing that little jewel. The VT Bass is the likely suspect in the sweeter tones of the BA108v2 I hear. I also love the independent volume control for the AUX IN. Why more amps don't feature this is a mystery.
The addition of the Eminence driver makes the amp heavier. This is not really a problem because it sits on top of two PJB Cab27 cabs, and the Elf sits on top of it, neat as you please.
Weight is now something of a minor concern:
A friend of mine just received her grandfather's 1964 Fender bass. It is (her mother tells me) all original. She may be keen for lessons (her mother tells me). It's unclear if she owns a bass amp (probably not). The PJB BG400 would be perfect to take because it has a two channel preamp. It also weighs 40 pounds lol. The little Ampeg tops 30 pounds.
Clearly I need a micro amp! I would go for a Trace Elliot combo in a heartbeat.
Here all along I've been saying I don't need more amplification!

I sense a GAS attack coming on.
This is me with short scale basses.
I am guilty of liking the Trace Elliot tone! The Trace combo basically rings in at the same cost as an Elf and a Trace cab. (But I have an Elf, and it is mughty.)
Seriously have no ideas for a new short scale. I know the "why" of a new bass — a personal token of a pending major life achievement. When and what are unclear.
Allow me to suggest perhaps you need something more nano...?

I know you know the brand. I love the tones out of my Double Four, and I trust this Single Four would be pretty close.
