I have the last generation of the Max 115. The tone was not great, although I heard the combos the price point up are/were great. I think the attachment to Peavey is really an American thing. In Canada we are more attached to Traynor.

Doc, I've stated b4(in TBird Club)that I really wanted a YBA 200/2x12 bass rig back in the mid 70s. Couldn't get any downward movement on price in the Miami area so I wound up with a(used)'blue line' SVT/810-which was THE thing at the time. It was OK(?)but WAY too cumbersome. AFA Peavey, after the "Undercover Boss" thing I will NOT buy Peavey.

I have an "old"(mid-80S[?])Peavey KB300 keyboard amp. 3(separate)ch, 100W, Vol,bass, mid, treble, reverb on each channel, 'pull' gain on the volume knobs; 15" spkr + horn. Used to play bass through 1 ch, piano-w/ bass section-in 2nd ch, 3rd ch MT. Put out oodles of sound. Built like a tank but weighed more. Prolly needs a good cleaning but still works.<EDIT>Forgot-2 blue knobs are master reverb, master volume.View attachment 3324320

Thanks for the pic, GP. That’s the Peavey-look I remember from the late-seventies/early eighties. Man, that baby looks heavy just taking the picture! Built like a solid brick though. Very cool you’re still with it.

There are 2 reasons I still have it: 1. No one wants heavy stuff. 2. (see 1.)

Yeah, I watched that episode after you recommended it and now I feel the same way.

Yeah, I'm not gonna 'trash' my KB-300 or my MAX-110 I got b4 that episode. The 110 resides in my van as a backup amp. I take it out occasionally and make sure it still works. The only piece of Peavey equipment I might buy(I have one)is their Vee-base mic stand. No need for a boom or gooseneck.

‘Ray, let me sift through my handy-dandy 4,500-page CC Handbook to be sure, but I believe we allowed B-15s in because they’re are kinda joined at the hip and are very cool. I’ll get back to you. I’m sure I’m the one who sang, “Let ‘Em In!” at the idea.

So I can take this one to smaller gigs and jams 'cause it's MUCH lighter:

On a more somber note...did a gig tonight (with the small Carvin) and my hand cramping issues returned with a vengeance. I don't know what to do. I don't want to stop playing, but the cramps are so bad I can't play. I took my usual magnesium supplement, drank two bottles of water (which poses it's own issue we won't discuss here), ate dinner with fries (sodium and potassium) as well as a banana. All stuff that's supposed to help. I guess a trip to the doctor is in order. It's hell getting old...

Big, long time no read. Good to see ya walking the club hallways. I was always intrigued by that particular Peavey because of its features, but the actual cab scared the pee outta me because of the ergonomics. It didn’t look fun to lift!

On a more serious note, Amen to getting old. The thing we live for and live to do seems to getting tougher as we age and I’m only 58. Head to the doc if you think it’ll help. Otherwise, I’d double the French fry intake and see what that does!

CosmicRay, I did some digging and found the precedence to add you to our membership list. I added an Ampeg B-15 user after the membership agreed that even though this classic amp is considered two-piece, it sets up as one under the Portaflex guidelines. Now, to keep the purists happy, if you ever come across a little combo amp you can snap a picture of and post, everyone will sleep more soundly.

And these hand cramps ....

The bass player pictured at left in pink wound up with a lot of new straps before seeing a doctor for chronic shoulder pain. Went on to physical therapy and no surgery required. And kind of a lot more straps than the first Morrighan upgrades from 1979 when the strap that came with the bass is just fine. That strap is retired. Technically I am too but seem to work as hard and long as I did in The City.

Here in The Country a gal who's been a freind since the StingRay was brand new has a son who plays one of those things with six strings. And said to him, this Peavey is yours if you promise to pay it forward. He agrees and it feels very good and very sad at the same time to see the Peavey go. Part of me says wouldn't it be cool to show up at a gig with that old TNT and the grearter part of me says whatadja mad? Because the PJB BG-400 Suitcase at 350 watts (500 with the C4) puts out an astonishing amount of sound, and it sounds exactly like my bass. Now how cool is that.

The VT Bass Deluxe on the Flip Top setting pushed flat though the PBJ sounds mighty close to a B-15, the TB Gurus over at the Effects place declare. What is certain is everyone who has heard my semi-hollowbody through that signal chain says: nice tone.

I thought that looked different. I played through 1 a few times about 10 years ago. Guy wanted to sell it but(unfortunately-for me), he knew what it was worth.(sigh)

I stand corrected. With those classics, I think they should all be called Ching-Ching! It looks to be in fine shape too.

And for the ching ching factor it's a great deal easier buy-in to play a Fender that models an SVT and is also a one hand carry. But still ...

Here still working out how to really use my own tone controls properly ....

Of that, never really have said much here about the PBJ BG-400 combo amp. Correcting that now.

It's the first high-end amp I ever owned, that's for sure. It just feels quality. Very much the feeling of the vaunted (or despised) MBOL (My bass only louder) the DB folks chase. But not up there in the stratosphere like the Acoustic Image stuff, or the AER Amp One. Or is it? Cause that's some real coin to put down for "just" 350 watts in a combo amp say the nattering nabobs of negativity. (Edit: I gather the general consensus at TB is the AER Amp One blows away everything without regard to race, creed, or color, provided you don't mind the buy-in ching ching)

But turn it on ... and it's all woah I'm getting that our of those five inch speakers? Because an earlier version of this bass player once played in front of the stack about as tall as me with those 15 inch drivers pushed all the way ... and here is this tiny box that's putting that to shame. It doesn't reach my knees ....

What it wants is a nice place coupled to a floor and wall and there's that bass loud and clear. Pretty much I play it flat and adjust what I need from the Ray's preamp. Got so I know just how to play the treble and bass knobs together to get just what I'm looking for.

The V-V-T-T arrangement with the three way toggle on the semi-hollow came as a bit of a surprise. Still figuring out how to get exactly what I want from the thing. It's weird, I guess, but I can see it in a certain sort of way, that it doesn't work as V and T controls for each pickup when I'm using both. Still working out exactly how to get just what I'm looking for with a passive bass!

All of which means I'm spending more time with the tone controls on my amps and beginning to work out how to uses those ...

Well, the little ol' R40 did quite nicely, 2 nights in a row; totally different venues. Restaurant lounge tonight(Sat.)with a very mixed crowd. Hard to hit but they liked us and wanted to know when we'd be back so we musta done sumpin' right.
