The Combo Club

Dear Unpronounceable!

Thanks for the kind words!
I’ve been lovin’ my T-Max for almost 30 years,now... no Rig-o-Shame here.

If it’s still available, may I have #420?

❤️⚾

Dear harp:

It's not totally unpronounceable. It stands for Iowa Guitar Player, but I call him Iago [ee ah' go].

I'm sure something can be worked out. Iago will contact you about membership number. Glad to have you with us. Here's your membership comm badge. It works just like you'd expect, and it provides access to all The Combo Clubhouse goodies.

Welcome aboard, Harpo!

My sweet Magnolia State story...

This is Not the T-Max I bought.

Within weeks, (sure that it was something I had done, or not done, or didn’t know), I brought it back to the shop. They couldn’t tell me what was wrong...I seem to remember it having to do with mixing the tube pre-amp with the big-bolls solid state amp?...this was 1996 (?)
The guys at the shop knew I was playing Every weekend, so they offered to let me take another Peavey amp while they figured it out...good guys!

The Very Next Day I get a call from Meridian!
‘Mr. Harp, we can’t have a customer spend That kind of money and be walking around unhappy...but we’re in a bit of a pickle here.’

(Oh, damn... Here it comes:banghead:)

‘I’ve talked with the dealer, and his tech. We’re not getting the job done long distance...
I’d love to ship you a new amp, but...

(Oh, damn...HERE it comes!:banghead:)

...our production line is closed for retooling; we’re getting ready for the new model year.
If you could just hold on for about 3 weeks, would it be ok with you if we shipped you Next Year’s Model?’

(You could have knocked me over with a
good stiff breeze!:woot:)

I couldn’t say ‘Hell Yes!’ fast enough!!

True to their word, I played 2 weekends with the loaner amp...and a Brand New
T-Max showed up on my front porch on the Thursday before the 3rd weekend!

THAT, my social media buds, is the way to create Brand Loyalty!!

From my experience if you're looking for dirt dialing up gain on a PJB amps you're likely disappointed. The grit available with the Vox is well explored thanks to @Killed_by_Death

To be honest I haven't experimented much with the overdrive/distortion in the VX50BA - it doesn't fit the project I'm in now. I was hoping that the NuTube might impart a slight bit of fur with the drive turned off, but haven't tried to make that happen yet.

Without the Iowa connection the avatar name reads I A Guitar Player

Which strikes me funny the same way as I eated a apple. Fun to do in the same vein - shake your head no when you say the word "yes" or nod your head yes when you say the word "no".

I see it now...and now y’all can see how berry, berry slow on the uptake I can be!

(Wait, What?! This is the guy who wants #420!

Nods knowingly...)

“Too much time on my hands...too much time!” (Cue descending keyboard)

Speaking of "ghosts" what I see here is the ghost of the 70s when a bass combo amp was (to some) a Rig 'O Shame...

Like the burned toast story in The Shining, it's something that happened a long time ago and is gone, but you can still smell it.

On (I think)Discovery channel, there was a story about 2 small towns in Italy separated by a tall ridge. On one side people shook their heads side to side for 'yes' and up and down for 'no'. Just the opposite of "normal". The other side did it the way we're used to seeing.

I dunno, Fearless Leader not give #666 to that heavy metal guy before. Preferring to stay with "next number generator" he got for birthday.

Is usink latest Potsylvanian Digital Calculator for most accurate of complex predictive processes.
Is inputtink data for rate of membership growth over time, mmm .... carry the one, . . . um, . . . round the fudge-flavored factor, mmmm ... Pi are round, yummy . . . take squier of hippopotamus, ... upgrade p'ups in squier, . . . . convert to inverse, ...

Yes! #420 is comink available in early July 2022. Is not long. Be here before you are knowink anythink! You are payink dues now?

G'Dog, you're the one who's had my PDC? I've been looking for it for days. What have I asked you? If you're gonna borrow all my top secret devices the least you can do is fill out the standard requisition form (SRF) and wait a month as everyone else does. Sheesh...

You may have left out the very important inverse-growth factor created by not following the trendy norms of other TB clubs but that might be an indicator of the ‘combo gene’. That little difference that makes us embrace the humble combo in the first place

When that factor is added, my calculations push that number’s availability to around 2099. At bit longer wait :smug:

Not following trendy norms, huh? Well I'll have you know I'm wearing what they're calling is the latest in men's' attire, the leisure suit. Yep, I found it on a rack at my local Green Stamps store and ya know, it's not half bad. Goes great with my 100% polyester John Travolta disco shirt.

I dunno, maybe Ghostie does have a point and it's a good one. We here at the CC, do not follow the trends of the others which may be why we're always looking for unique members. Combos forever!

Gotta go. I'm a woman's man no time to talk.

harp, your request is denied. As has been mentioned, we live here by precedence and except Stumbo going ahead a few numbers, we've never bowed to peer pressure. You, our newest mate, are #125. A very nice-sounding number at that. But I'll tell what I'll do. When we get up close to #420, if you send me an autographed Steve Miller, 1975 Fly Like an Eagle tour t-shirt the number is yours! Don't worry about a deadline, Ghost (our club's CPA) has it estimated to be around 80 years. Hmm...better make it an extra-large.

Welcome! :bassist:

80 years, you say?

Well, though the the odds seem slim, Perhaps I’ll be the first person since Methuselah to see birthday 140!

Failing that, I plan to leave a note tucked into the back of my T-Max, alerting my great-great grandhuman to the situation.

(Steve Miller made WAAAY better records than Fly Like An Eagle...)

[HERESY/] After playing my Kustom Groove 310C combo at a gig and discovering how easily it overpowered our FOH system, confounding our soundman, I tried bypassing the Kustom head and plugged my 370 into the 2 ohm, 310 cab.
Eureka!! The 310's 2 ohms gets the 370 to open up and gets a very impressive punch from the cab. Also, it's not so immediately overpowering, which seems to be kind of a "default setting" for the Kustom... So I've since had a longer speaker cable made for the 370 and will be using them together as a separate head and cab. The cab is about 35 or 40 lbs lighter now as well, and a lot more fun to get in and out of my house.[/HERESY]

I'm sorry.

I still, happily, do have my Peavey Combo 300. Love that amp.
