Really? I must’ve on vacation when that happened. I’ll see if I can find his testimonial. He likes the Vox that much? Do you feel comfy that it’ll do the small gigs easily enough? I know it’s worked for ya at church, but what about your bluegrass jams? How does it compare to the Studio 40? Does the Fender’s larger speaker make that much of a difference?
Hey hey, congratulations to the Combo Club for hitting their 200th page of ribald postings! It seems to love a lot faster when you have a bunch of nice musicians all chining in about one thing or another. Way to go, team!

I'd like to acknowledge, before hitting the hay, that the CC welcomes yet another new member to its star-studded lineup. chupacerveza is now our 136th member of the club and he surely deserves it with all that eye candy he delivered in picture. I don't have to worry about gigging, so the Vox suits me.
I took it to a big pawnshop recently & it sounded great, even in that big room.

Yes, the 50 watt Vox VX50BA puts out a surprising amount of nice full clean bass tone from just an 8" speaker (mounted on a wooden baffle) in a plastic cabinet. It handled my bluegrass jams, with over a dozen acoustic instruments, very easily; in addition to a high ceiling medium church sanctuary with medium sized balcony. The ¼" Direct Out is pre-EQ for FOH support. And, if you like high gain tones it'll get even louder with those!
Of course, it doesn't have the variety of voices that the Rumble Studio 40 has. And I didn't get it to sound quite as punchy and full as my favorite "Deep Rumble" preset on the Studio. Whether that is because of the Studio's modeling, or larger speaker, or combination of the two, is difficult to determine. But, I have no doubt that, with some tweaking, the Vox can approximate many of the other tones and volumes of the Studio. And the Vox is just half the weight, and little over half the price of the Studio!
I love my Studio, but I'm not ready to give up my Vox, either!

The buttons came forward in "time" with me from an era when people seemed to give me buttons. The "Nobody for President" button is a gift from an actual Hollywood producer (no couch casting!). It is Wavy Gravy who ran as Nobody - "Nobody will end war, Nobody will lower your taxes, &c)". The Shakedown button's origin is likely forgotten but possibly from Tower Records in West Hollywood. There is a large blue "Peace" button with a white dove that seems to be MIA (figures), and yet-to-be-pinned "High Society of Boston" pin :: laugh ::

but the Peavey's gone long live the Peavey. Gave it to a friend's son with a "pay it forward" agreement. Kid can really lift that thing, wow. Watch it go out the door on his shoulder with mixed feelings of relief and sadness. He says it's loud.

Thank you iagtrplyr! I reckon I like the Rumble 100 combo best because it's so light (22 lbs) and sounds so good. It easily keeps up with the loudest of my three bands in rehearsal, The Dock Ellis Experience, which includes an electric guitar, drummer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist (mandolin/guitar/banjo). If I didn't already have more powerful gear I'd have gotten the Rumble 200.

Clearly the Combo Club already has a bad influence on me.
My birthday's in February.
We have different ideas of what Punch means, but did you try increasing the Gain? The Gain also affects how much the EQ boost or cuts.
I found an extremely scooped Genz-Benz hybrid amp at Sam Ash & the VX50BA was there also. It took some fiddling, but I finally got the VX50BA to sound like the G-B, but with extreme EQ.
I'm reminded of how I returned my VOX on the first day, because of a flickering sound over the speaker. It was a constant blip like the sound of a bad rectifier.
Well, it turns out I just had it too close to the cable-modem in my TV cabinet.
However, I returned it when I didn't need to, because it's perfectly fine across the room in the old location, by my chair.
It's really strange, because it wasn't doing it last week!
I didn't have this problem with the Studio 40 in the exact same location.
Now I'll be swapping spots between the cable-modem & the PS4, which are on opposing sides now.
Yeah, any dummy should have known putting an amplifier right beside a cable-modem with an integral Wi-Fi router would cause this problem, LOL!
I feel like a numpty for not trying it at a different receptacles before racing the first one back to the VOX dealer.
One thing I can say against the VOX, which I'm reluctant to do, is that it probably isn't as well shielded as the Studio 40.
(edit/update: this might not be true, check the last line of my update)
At first I thought it was the power-brick, but that moved by the cable-modem does nothing, but if you put the cabinet itself in front of the cable-modem, there comes the blip.
On second thought, I'll probably just move the VOX back by my chair for now, don't feel like getting all hot & sweaty moving those devices around in the TV cabinet.
A few trivial reasons I let the Studio 40 go:
I didn't use the app, & my phone is near full anyway. I only just deleted the app & realized I only used it long enough to see how it worked.
I'm not going to DL other people's profiles to use.
I couldn't get the pitch-shift effect to work with the expression pedal like a Whammy, which really disappointed me.
The other effects, besides Wah & Reverb, weren't that interesting to me.
I was using the Studio 40 as a looping station, programming in bass-lines so I could play over those on guitar on the VOX.
Well, I quit guitar again for the umpteenth time, so that was out now.
The display, if i'm standing I have to bend far down to fiddle with the knobs, to reach the knob of course, but also to see the display. My vision isn't the greatest.
If I put the amp by my chair to my right, I can't fiddle with the knobs conveniently. Can't see the display well.
Power-On to useful time. Doesn't it take about 90 seconds from power-flip to sounds-coming-out on the Studio 40?
I just wanted to go back to basics after exploring effects & models. The Studio 40 was a cheap experiment for me.
The dude who bought it really tried his best to haggle on the already discounted price & then he flipped it right on here a few days later.
He probably made money selling the expression pedal & MGT-4 foot-switch, but it saved me the hassle of driving to the state capital to sell it.
update:
While I couldn't sleep for my nap-time, I came up with a thought & came to test it.
First I moved the power-brick around, flipping it over, etc., no change.
Then I moved the amp back & forth WRT the cable-modem. (not farther away, but in parallel)
I found two sweet-spots at different intervals from the wall.
One is close to the wall, but far enough away to accommodate plugging into the DO.
So, I found that the location of the box in relation to the cable-modem makes a huge difference, and I don't just mean distance-wise.
If this position weren't satisfactory I could have moved the cable-modem instead, but I do prefer both as they are right now!
I couldn't sleep, because I knew I'm not going mad & that last week it was perfectly quiet.
The only thing that had changed was that I put it against the wall & moved the plug from directly into the receptacle to going into the UPS.
That's why I moved it against the wall, to accommodate moving the plug farther away to the UPS, stretching the cord a bit.
Come to think of it, the electronics for the Studio 40 are higher in the cabinet, so they wouldn't have been directly horizontal with the cable-modem.
