Side note: I used this rig for an outdoor gig with my blues band, drum set and electric guitar. Smallish lawn with no PA support. Sounded great, and the sound guy went out of his way to tell me how good it sounded. (He’s also a bass player, who uses a GK head/Mark cab rig )

Hmmm, very cool recessed brackets, alan! Not unlike the head attachment cups on top of Rumble extension cabs, except probably without the magnets. Not sure you could easily install them in place of the chrome corners on top a Rumble, though. Aren't the rubber feet located on the chrome corners? But you could probably easily relocate the rubber feet on the bottom of one.

All that Rumble goodness and high praise from a bass playing sound man, too. It don't get no better.

Yes sir! I use this setup for rock, blues, country, bluegrass, jazz, soul... the simplicity of the combo in general, the Rumble specifically and the P bass allows me to just plug in and play!


I’ve used it for 3 gigs so far, and no signs of lateral movement. The rubber feet sit just inside the metal corner brackets. I suppose I could always add circular recessed brackets if I wanna be extra sure, like these:

Thank you for your response, alanloomis1980. I also appreciate the reminder pic of the 210's recessed cups. They worked very well. To me, anytime a fellow bass player has nothing but praise for your sound you can take that to the bank, especially when his rig is most likely a lot more expensive than yours. Two 100s...cool!

Like I said, I haven’t really noticed any movement to concern me. The circular recess idea popped into my head, But I haven’t really dug in deep to see if it’s actually feasible.

ive been flirting with the idea of getting some GK gear. I have to remind myself of that story, and wonder- will it really make that much of a difference?

we’ve been here a little over 2 years, and the whole family loves it here. We came from Seattle, where there’s a lot of musical competition. Here I’m a big fish in a small pond. Plenty of people looking for bassits and I’m cleaning up!

Hey Doc! So I take it you’ve replaced the Peavey with your VOX combo, correct? You’ve still got a combo in the chain, so what’s the difference? Are you hooked up the same way or not? The Peavey was your power and the little VOX was your power, if I remember, but the VOX combo is like 10 watts so that isn’t it. Okay, I’m confused. Educate me!

Regardless, you’re a part of the family and not going anywhere. Like you said, you’ve always got the Kustom.

You are right! There still is a combo in the chain, and there will still be one if the changes I want to make work out.

The Pathfinder is 10 watts, but there is a mod you can do to it to increase the wattage. Nonetheless, the Pathfinder is providing the EQ and the power is coming from the MV50CL. I'm surprised how loud it is. I'm hoping it will keep up with the drummer!

My memory of the "Peavey tone" is unreliable owing to distance in time. What I believe I recall accurately is my Peavey was a rockin' combo, loud and heavy. Very easy to dial in. My experience with Ampeg is a bit limited as I play the BA108v2 regularly (at home). It is very Ampeg-y. I can (and do) make it more Ampeg-y with the VT Bass. The BA108 plugs my cable.

The older Peavey TNT115 combo sounded pretty great. Used play in a club where the sound guy was a bass player and backlined with 2 X TNT115's. They were heavy and had that classic Peavey look but they did sound great. It also helped that I didn't have to carry anything. I was easily able to dial in my sound and didn't have to tweak once setup. That to me is the mark of a great amp.

Have no experience with ampeg combo's.

I had a BA 112(v1?). Never got a good tonal match with my TBird, plus it took its weight cues from Peavey. Traded it for PA gear-which is now seriously outdated.

Good evening, all! I've barely been on and off the forum, but have enjoyed all your postings this past week or so. We survived conferences last week, a huge Halloween party here at the castle (literally) on Saturday, and my bud, The Rev, is here in town for this week. He brought me a long-lost present tonight though, and for that I'm grateful. Welcome home, PF-210HE! I'm the only one who's used this beauty and she's barely broken in. Also, this is going to hold up the Stage 800 to make it a 410, 800-watt weapon of destruction. Yeah, like I'll ever need that.

So Fearless Leader is sitting here at the amplifier crossroads trying to decide whether to complete the rig with A) an amp head to snare the tone I'm thinking will work best for my hollow-body bass, or 2) grab a certain mini rig for its looks but also to use the NuTube head with the 'Peg for low-powered giggles. I'm giving myself the next month to research and make a decision to order in time to enlist Santa's fantastic shipping service.

I'm a big fan of the Vox, so that's what I'd recommend. The combination of the MV50CL and Pathfinder produced an awesome tone for me through 210s. I should have made a recording, but I sold the Edens yesterday. I've got a new cab on the way soon!

What? You sold the Edens? I figured those little buggers would work perfectly with that rig. Did they not sound like you wanted them to? So what cab are ya going to run with your setup, or is it a secret? You already played that hand a couple of weeks ago and it didn't turn out well Doc. Whatever you get, I'm sure it'll work.

As far as the Voxy is concerned, I'd love to audition the Superbeetle head before making the purchase just to see if it'll drive the two tens well enough. I'm setting my limit to $400-500 for the mini rig or head and there are quite a few quality heads in that price range. I may even look for a used Ampeg Pf-20T tube amp. Otherwise, I'm considering Genzler, Ashdown, Bugera, and Playskool. (Just to see if anyone is actually reading this drivel)

The Edens were great, but I like prefer 15s for the Hofners. Plus if I stuck with the two Edens my amp would have four components. So I saw a Traynor 1510 for sale and I jumped on it! The Traynor has two 10s and a 15 in the same cab. It's big but only one unit. Plus, I always wanted some Traynor in the line somewhere.

Great little amps, but the colors are jarring.
