@iriegnome Thank you very much. I'm loving my Studio 40, I have been able to build a few presets for all my of basses that further explore their potential. My favorite is with my Bass VI, I have it running through a model of a Dual Showman with a ton of reverb and the bass rolled off, I'm able to use the bridge pickup to get a baritone guitar sound and if I dig-in or play chords I get a nice overdrive. Other highlights are with my Spector (tuned to D-standard) and the model for a GK-800, sounds just like the bass tone from Facelift by Alice in Chains without touching a single knob.

The BG250-208 runs at 8Ohms and has a speaker out. It allows an extension cabinet to be added to bring the amp to 4Ohms. Giving you the full 250w. So my massive little guy here is running 4-6" speakers and 2-8" speakers at the same time. Kind of amazed as to how much bottom end comes out of them.

To Morrighan and anyone else ever considering updating their combo speaker: YES!

Let me explain. Just finished a 4-hour jam with my buddy from Ohio (yeah, there were breaks). For this evening, I decided to begin with the Jazz bass and Ampeg combo with the new speaker. After a couple of songs, the Jazzer was put back on the stand and listened the rest of the evening. It's just not tripping the trigger any longer, though I'll never part with her. The Rogue Beatle bass gets the call, but what is this...? I stay with the 'Peg because I know I'm still working the driver to "broken-in" status and felt like it would be what my ears wanted to hear tonight.

B-I-N-G-O, and I'm not talking about the dog. For the rest of the evening it was bass nirvana for my tired end-of-the-week-kids-yelling-for-five-days-straight ears. Warm, yet punchy. Never a sign of strain no matter where I set the bass knob or volume dial. M, I'm telling ya, for as good as the stock speaker is, the Eminence Alpha 8A is ten times better! Again, I'm in the music room and it's a typically-sized bedroom, and no, I wouldn't gig Carnegie Hall with it, but for what you and I are using our combos for, IMHO, it's as good as you're gonna make it. All for $60 bucks. Sell your glossy of GP's garage door, hock your membership decoder ring, but so this thing before 2019 ends. You'll never play through anything else while you're at home again.

Seriously, the Foxy Voxy was next to my Rumble 100 and they were both sweating bullets because when I'm hot for something stuff gets /moved. No, I'm not unloading, but it's better sounding than anything I have in the room right now and that included the Stage 800. If I could rule the world for 24 hours I'd somehow make a larger version of the 108 v2 revised and use it for playing larger places. And no, the larger Ampeg combos do not sound like this little gem...all $99 worth. It's truly special, but the better speaker makes it that much better.

Okay, return to your normal lives, I'm done. Now I've got to find a head that'll cop the 108's tone through the 210 cab. I've added Ashdown and a used Aguilar 350 if I can find a good one to the list. I want a B-15 tone, not an SVT one. The larger Ampeg combos are aiming for SVT but the little one is more Motown to my ears if the bass knob has been pushed. Love it!

Okay M, take 10% of your gig money for the next two months and get that speaker. I'm guaranteeing it.

Everyone have a great weekend, I'll be here, there, and everywhere this weekend. Our Davenport GC will be but one stop tomorrow where I'm finally gonna check out the used Yorkville 200-watt 15" combo. Just for giggles though.

I'm sold.

Now with everything in its place again, I took a few moments Friday night to A-B-C them. First up, which is what I was playing through anyway, is the Phil Jones BG-400 and C4. It's a beast. That's not the first impression one gets the first time its thrown in gear. The first impression is where's the beef? The trick is in how the gain and master actually work, opposed to how you think they should work. The pots are non-linear. Crank it up and There It Is.

Next up is the Elf and Phil Jones Cab 27. It's a different sound for sure, and lacking some of the oomph of the full monte. But the rig wasn't intended to replace the big rig. A different beastie entirely.

Pluge in to the Ampeg BA-108v2 (without the upgrade) and I'm all this sounds really good. Bring up the volume to match the other two and it's

worth the upgrade.

On a serious road trip come Thursday and Friday. Likely can order up thereafter.

I was glad to read that you give the driver a bit of a break-in. When I was a Roadie, you wouldn't believe how many players didn't think drivers need a bit of break-in. So when there was a new cab, or new drivers installed in, the crew did that at set up. Then after the show, "boy those new cabs sound great." Yeah,..............

I'm glad you're enjoying the violin bass so much. I do think it is an underrated design.

I’ve bern defending the break-in period for many moons on this forum and have battled those (even the experts) that speakers need a little time to loosen up before they sound best. You, someone who was in the trenches, made more sense in one post than anyone who’s argued the point.

I’d maybe go along with a high-quality driver sounds better to begin with and doesn’t need as long before it breaks in, but my ears, of which spent five years of my young life critically listening to music through high-end audio components, told me when the speaker’s tone improved over time.

Someone hand Mr. Nylon the keys to the “Bass Room” for the weekend. He’s earned it.

Thanks Doc. Maybe it’s an acquired taste, I don’t know, but what I do know is when I was playing my Jazz it sounded like someone else was playing music and all it took was one tune to know it wasn’t me. When I strapped on the Rogue I heard my own voice immediately. I’m not saying it’s perfect; far from it, but it speaks to those listening that I’m the one playing it.

Okay, too philosophical this early in the morn. It’s ‘cuz I’m having a Mikey Day with my bud today. Music stores, Five Guys burgers, and NO CHILDREN ALLOWED!

The breaking in of drivers for me goes back to Electro Voice, Altec Lansing, JBL, Jensen, and Celestion. All great drivers for their time.

I tried the KB 12 and I was completely uninspired. For me, it had no tone nor the expected volume. My Rumble 100V3 sounds much better to my ears and gut.
I had the same experience with the Ashdown Studio15. So I settled on adding a Rumble Studio 40 to my R100 and it's amazing.
