Plus, the tone we’re getting out of our present-day amps is quite good no matter what it’s compared to. I got into bass after the Peaveyizoic Era, and my only experience with overweight combos was my 90-lb Ampeg B-2, and the year or two I owned it was more than enough. Hoisting that up and over the tailgate wore me out!

Gimme my 40-lb Stage 800 and I’m a happy musician.

That 'peg B-18 was for sale but he knew what he had-and what it was worth. I'm not a big(current)Ampeg fan, but that tubed monster was a-mazing.

Picked up my 2000 Bassman 25 from the shop today. It's back working good as new. It weighs twice as much as my Rumble 40(33# vs 16#)but dang does it sound good! I'd forgotten how rich and full it is. I was using it at the concert band rehearsal tonite and will use it for the concert next week. Between my Ibanez AGB200 and the Bassman 25, I get a very 'string bass-y' tone, which is great for this situation.

Enjoy your "new" old amp, Gone Plaid. Thee's nothing like that double bass tone, is there? For certain music, you can't beat it. Think of it this way, carrying your combo around will add years to your core...

Yeah. And my already shot to h--- knees. Seriously, I'm thinking of letting go of the R40. I used to play some of our smaller gigs through the B25 and it did the job admirably. Besides, I use a cart to schlep all my gear anyway, so the weight only matters getting it into/outta the van.
Come daylight, I'll try to get a fresh pic of the garage door, partially blocked by the Ibby and the B25. I'd better write myself a note lest I forget.

We each strive for the sound we want out of our amps. I had an SVT/810 "Fridge"in the early 80s-never got the sound I wanted out of it. Years later bought a BA112v1(50W/12"). Twiddled all the buttons in every combination there was-never got the sound I wanted. Conclusion: the 'Peg sound(s)isn't what I'm looking for. Thass why there are so many choices out there. And why many of us are on that never ending quest to find the sound we hear in our heads.:banghead:

Well, I guess it was inevitable. My newly aquired Blackstar Unity 60 is moving on. It's definitely a good amp, it just wasn't what I was looking for. I have to come to terms with the fact that I'm a Fender guy at heart, so today I went out and got a Rumble Studio 40. A trifle extravagant perhaps, but it's my birthday in 10 days, so I figured I'd treat myself. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces, though that won't be for a few days yet, but I'll probably be able to squeeze in some noodling time before that. :)

A) Early happy B'day. (B) I've reached the conclusion that, amp wise, I, too, am a 7ender guy. Basses are[mostly]Gibby, amps are[mostly]7ender.

It's been a very long time since I played through a Fender. A Bassman + 15 of some sort was the rehearsal studio rig. Mostly what I recall is plugging in and playing without any fuss. The brick and mortar across the river carries the entire Rumble line. What has my attention now is either a second PJB Cab 27 for the Elf, or a Cab 47 to pair with the Cab 27. I know about two 8 ohm cabs with a different number of drivers, and know the Cab 27 would be working "harder". But with only 100 watts available to each cab, ain't nothing to worry about.
