I think you should consider a Rumble 40 combo at just 18 lb.s with a 10" speaker. It can give the same wide range of excellent tones as it's bigger brothers, plus it has Aux In, Headphone connection and a post-EQ XLR Out for FOH or recording. Very capable for practice, but also for a lot more gigs than the li'l foxy. The Rumble 100 would be a very worthy upgrade, if you're so inclined.

Finally, just in case you appreciate a very wide variety of tones, consider the Rumble Studio 40. It's modeling software is very advanced, yet easy to use. It has all the advantages of the Rumble 40, in addition to the adjustable sounds of a great many other amps, cabs and effects pedals, many in STEREO, plus simultaneous pre & post XLR Outs and 2 FX loops!! A truly amazing package of interesting and valuable features.

YES! Now we're onto something. OK, from Dr. Intrepid and G-Dog, the Pathfinder is stricken from the list.

Looked at the Fender Rumble 40, Studio 40, Rumble 25, 25 LT, Rumble 100, and Rumble 15. They are all great sounding little amps, they're just too close in size and weight for me to consider them to be really an addition to my trusty GK, which I'm not getting rid of.

The GK has line outs, phone out, effects send and returns. It is what I'll probably still use for nearly any gig (if I can get the volume-drop issue sorted), and I *think* that the DI is post-EQ. I will put a premium on an amp with an Aux In.

Actually Mike, I don't really know what you like. You seem to have eclectic tastes, so I think we're similar there. I am interested in your review of the red radiator, and I won't be buying any amps for a few weeks if not a couple months.

My plan is to order my list from one of the online sellers that have generous return policies, play them all, then send back all but the winner. That plan does not lend itself to bargain shopping for particular models, because if a company does me the solid of letting me pull off the plan, then I'll reward them with the business. Going to try and video the testing, then edit down to a short vid. We'll see how that goes.

Full disclosure, I expect the two PJBs or the Vox to be the ones to beat.

Oh, but you do. It’s everything under the sun! Now I may have particulars (Fenders, Ampeg, VOX), but if you. If you can turn it on, plug in, and create a smile, I’m there. As for the Red Raider, you got it, my man!

So give us a little more on your musical tastes and to how similar you want the sound to be compared to the GK. Do ya like a modern bass tone or is this the amp for a looser, tubey vibe?

The only thing missing that I wish was included on my Fender Rumble 75 V2 Combo would have been an Ext. Spkr Out jack. Maybe Fender thought a mere 75 watts wasn't powerful enough to run a second cab? I still would have liked one included. The little combo is still a very loud amp with it's special design Fender 12" driver anyway. It's certainly more than just a bedroom practice amp.

Is there a foot pedal to run the overdrive section? Or is it Always On ?

You bring up an interesting thought that turns into a great trivia question. What’s the lowest-powered combo amp that offers an ext cab out jack? Giff’s Surprise made me think maybe amp designers don’t believe 75 watts is enough to run a second cab.

Here’s entry: the Markbass 801 combo. 50 watts into 8 ohms, but add an 8 ohm cabinet and it’ll drive both with 60 watts (if I remember). Kinda cool.
