Well, I can't speak for every Basic 40 out there, but mine is apparently a fairly early one, dating from Jan '84 according to Peavey support, and it is an amazing thing. It is not especially light in weight, but the 12 inch speaker is my ideal bass speaker size and 40 (Peavey) watts is more than enough to rattle my space without rattling the neighbors.

My "main" amp is a 400 watt semi-beast, so this amp lets me play more often at home. Plus, I have it on a furniture dolly so it's easy to wheel to where I want to play, and the EQ has a very useful range imo. It can get nasal to nasty to never heard of treble, with no trouble. ;)
Also, the "compressor" built in does this thing that I really like... I can't describe it, exactly, but I think it reminds me of a Peavey head I used a million years ago... Mk IV, maybe? :)
Whatever it is, it really bakes my cookies. ;)
Also, also, it came to me clean (almost immaculate, in fact imo), I picked it up locally, and it cost me $50. :D

wraub, that Peavey is quite the rig, I must say. Last night I did a search for you on our membership list and I couldn’t find ya. I’ve seen you here before though, so let me know if you’ve replied to join our club prior to today, or they I can add you on. With that giant killer of a bass rig you deserve to be on the roster. And if you don’t think you deserve it, then nominate your back for having to move it to and fro!

I was issued #143, and gladly accept it. :)
It has a 12" speaker, but it is really not all that big overall, and only weighs around 45 Lbs, so not especially heavy, either.
But the "Peavey Watts" :D are definitely in effect, this is the loudest 40 watts I think I've ever heard from a bass amp.
Bonus- it sounds good, too.

Had I not been clicking when the site went wonky

.... would have said a real scientifical test of the tones of the PBJ C4 and Cab 27 is to use the same amp. I know. And saying right here I've not found a way to dial the Elf into sounding like the BG-400. Maybe there is a way to do it, but not under my knob-twiddling fingers.

Anyone using the GK MB212 II combo? I'm looking to change up my current MarkBass CMD102P combo - simply for a change and there's a used one on the market in my area. I've used GK before and love the tone,..... just wondering about this specific combo.

Hey there, BB! Glad you stopped in with your query. You’ve come to the right place too. We, in fact have a member, Biggie, who just purchased a GK MB212 II within the last month or two and has commented how much he loves it. Hey Bigs, you’re up!

I myself am a former owner of a Markbass CMD 121P and liked it, though after a while I wanted a more old school tone and the mids of the MB lost favor.

As you know, the GK has its own baked-in tone, but those who love it really do love it. I also owned a first gen MB210 combo with the 210 ext cab. Yeah, it threw the sound out there, no problem.

Let’s see what the others chime in with. Send us a pic of whatever you ultimately decide to go with and I’ll score ya one of our exclusive membership numbers.

If you like the GK tone the MB212 has it. The tweeter can be hissy (you can be disable) but otherwise a very potent combo. I'd think the GK would have more output than your Markbass (I have limited experience with the model you own). Personally think the Markbass combo cabs are built a little better than the GK but the GK are perfectly functional.

No disrespect to the MarkBass CMD 102P - it's a great amp, and has been great to me for the last 10 years or so!!! I added a used Standard 102HF 2x10 speaker cab (to my gear list) BUT I tend to only need it when there's no good PA support (25% of my gigs).

Pics provided - as you can see, I've gone through a couple of basses but the amp stayed the same. ;)

Bit hard to see from the pic but looks like an orange flavoured EBSR5H you had onstage there at one point? Still have that bass?
