The Combo Club

I hear ya, chuy. My favorite red flag from these morons usually starts with "Quick question: ...", as if they've thoughtfully narrowed it down for you :rollno:, but then ends with the equivalent of, "... what is the meaning of life?" Of course, I don't answer the way I'd really like to, but instead usually tell them something like, "Well, it's a long answer that I don't have time to get into right now. Check back later, when things calm down." Then, if they do check back later, it usually turns out they had either misstated the question, or misunderstood the problem they needed help with, or if I'm really lucky, someone else has wasted their time straightening them out! [/rant]

Uh, ... sorry about that, ... um, . . . . Carry on.
.
You’re not wrong.

My experience is management hates long answers, and the short kind of answer of answer is less useful than no answer.

You ain't wrong! But, management can sometimes appreciate that "Complexities involved would require further investigation, but the basic idea (has/lacks, pick one) merit", then be prepared with bullet points to support your position, if asked.

Hm, does this qualify?
Work sent most of the office to work from home. Most of us do not have any dedicated office space at home, and our ergonomics are passable at best. Work asks us to stay in touch using Skype calls and WebEx. Work realizes that many of us don't have headphones that plug into our computers and allow us to talk and interact during these Skype and WebEx meetings. Work picks $15 Amazon wired headphones and says, "here you go, problem solved!" I point out that my wired phones (personal) are a problem because of the wire and I'm frequently pulling them out of my computer. I point out that wireless phones from Amazon are only $20. I get shut down with no consideration with, "this is what we're offering." We have maybe 20 people out of a site of 400 who even could make use of new phones, probably less who are willing to.

Is it me, or would the good will, morale, and comfort of the employees be worth an extra $5? :banghead:

You can tell me if I'm just being a whiny baby. I've been called worse. :bored:

Anyone know of a forum where bass combo amps are regularly discussed? I seem to have wandered into this mis-titled area where people in general talk about things in general, like it's their private living room... (maybe check out the "Send Private Message" function on this forum so you don't monopolize a forum with a specific topic with your endlessly boring private conversations!).
I know -- I'm SUCH an a-hole. But you're not out of line at all.....

At this time of widespread changes-which directly affect us being able to use our combos-a bit of concern about our friends is warranted.

Shh, don’t encourage The Dog. Then he’ll want to move up to 008 and I can’t afford all new monogram on his hankies...

This is going to require a long and detailed reply .... :roflmao:

Someone call for a long and detailed reply? Well, I'm yer Huckleberry! Ya see, it all started back when Fearless Leader made me a triple-naught spy. But, then he keeps getting me confused with 007, likely 'cause we look so much alike! And then he also thinks I own that '70s monolithic Kustom Kasino combo, likely 'cause me and Goner look so much alike! An then, ... uh, . . . .

Yeah, but if I told ya I’d have take your Chowny, and I don’t sense you’re wanting that.

Nice mids you got there. Be a shame if something happened to them ;)

Whoa! You shore do got a way of handling yerself there, Countessa! And ... huh? ... what the ...

:D:laugh::roflmao: Well, what do you know? The self-appointed Forum Topic Police is back again! Not with a post about any combo(s) either, but just to check in and rattle our cage. I tell you, this place just keeps getting more, and more entertaining all the time! :roflmao::laugh::D

Try this...offer to pay the $5 difference. Heck, when I had an office job, I would have paid more than $20 to be able to work from home to stay away from the office drama, boring meetings and whiny babies (and no, I do not think you are one)!

After reading your tale and reminiscing about incidents like this told by others, I'd say if anyone calls you a whiny baby, besides your friends, has never held a job in their lives before. Those in the trenches are asked last to what they need most.

Please place this post along with the sacred scrolls of the Combo Club. You hit homers three times!

And Dog's right about everything he wrote...

Hey, unless I'm mistaken, this looks like the exact same post that EssEll wrote a while back. What's up? Dude, did you make your rounds at TB and come back to find us not any more refined when it comes to combo amp etiquette than the last time? Well, as the guy who keeps the roll and has influenced how and how the club rolled, I want to extend my fullest apologies to you and those like you.

I'm so sorry we're not serious enough when it comes to combo conversation, but I have two ideas for what you can do to improve this situation: 1) create your own bass combo group where only the high-brows are allowed to address you, and 2) feel free to walk on by when you've circled back to our doorstep again. Not that I'm purposely banning you, because I can't anyway, but I will recommend we do one mass ignore and you'll disappear based on sacred TB rulebook.

Just write something instead of complaining about the club's intent. Trust me, the regulars who hang around here know a thing or two about bass combo amps, probably because they've seen a thing or two. You've got people here who've been playing for a half-century. What do you have to offer our club? Just post and let's find out. Otherwise, stop being an a-hole! :spit:
