The Combo Club

I understand that Oregon’s governor now has called for closing all restaurants and bars starting tomorrow except for takeout and drive through. We went out tonight for a last hurrah at our (my) favorite restaurant. We’re proposing that people buy gift cards and gift certificates from those closed/limited restaurants in order to keep them afloat until things get closer to normal once again.

Looks like bookings for the rest of March, April and maybe May will be canned. State of CO has shut down bars and restaurants as of a couple of hours ago. Don't know of New Mexico yet.
FL is leaving it up to cities and counties-for now. They strongly suggest following CDC guidelines: No gatherings over 10 people. Howinnahell's a business gonna survive on that!

Stuck in Alameda across the bridge from S.F...

WITHOUT MY BASS OR COMBO!

; (

Do have an acoustic guitar at least.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to all our Combo Club members as well as any visitors who might be passing by on this green Tuesday. I plan on donning the green beads and shamrock #2 purchased for me to wear during school today. If ya can’t see the bitter irony in that last line...

So I wish you all a pleasantly healthy day where we’re open 24/7 to air your thoughts, concerns, or even combo amp questions. Make us your guilty pleasure in this most serious time.

I know this: rumors are flying that we US taxpayers may be getting a economy-boosting check in the way of $1,000 per adult and $500 per child, and if that’s true then I’m going to do my part and buy a new bass! Do I need it right now? No, not really. Will it help keep someone from being laid off? Hopefully!

The search begins today!

I'm with ya boss! Got my eye on a beautiful new Mustang!

We all need to do our part to help keep our beloved music industry afloat!

Yep, ran out to my local coffee shop this morning to buy from them, even though their seating area is closed.

Our band did hold a practice in my space yesterday. Kinda somber. We decided it was our last for at least a couple of weeks. Both my Clase de Español and now Yoga are going online with Zoom. I am still going to my friend’s wood shop (huge place, 3 people) to help finish his kitchen cabinetry. He has fast moving ALS and we (his one worker and two of us friends) are trying to finish up so they can put the house on the market while he still can. Trying to order from restaurants that deliver to both feed ourselves and keep them in business. If, as an ex-pat living in Mexico on my CalPERS and Social Security, actually get that windfall payment, I think I will patronize Warmoth and StewMac and build myself another fretless bass. Got some great curly maple....
Again, stay safe combo-ites.

Thanks for sharing, J. Lot of sentiment in those words. Here’s to hoping you get to do just that. And here’s to our Combo Club, celebrating five years this Sunday!

Our practice space is shut down for a bit and I've moved all my course to online. Haven't started, as Thursday is supposed to be my first class. I'm also trying to figure out childcare. A friend's wife has agreed to help for a few weeks. Stage days.

Please hang in there, Doc. Life has a strange way of working out. Get your schoolin’ back on track and like may appear more normal. You can use the time at home to do a little practicing, if you have time.

We started the online thing today and the response from parents and students was surprisingly good. Seems as if the kids are already bored and looked forward to some work. My colleagues jumped in with one thing or another and it was fun heading it, but I was tired by 3:30. And I was still responding to emails until after 8:30.

Early excitement I’m sure, but I don’t if we’ll be able sustain the interest a month from now. The state said Snyder work we give us optional and not to be assessed. Heck, we’re just trying to keep their brains idling and family members from not going nuts.

Doc, are they giving you guys a prediction of when you’ll come back? As I mentioned, we’re a month, but both Kansas and Wisconsin shut down for the year!

Protect your health, my violin bass brotha. Keep us updated.

No clue how long this will last. I'm self-isolating too, since I've been symptomatic for over a week. It's likely not Covid-19, as they just got confirmed cases in my region over the weekend. I did the online diagnostic tool and I didn't require a test. Just stay away from folks!

My new amp Ampeg BA 210 V2. I love the tone and the looks. View attachment 3743719 View attachment 3743718

Nikos, are you one of us already? Looking back, I never made you an offer to join our merry band of Combo lovers when you posted, and I want to make up for it. Let me know if you’d like a number, in case you don’t, and I’ll get out the parchment and add you to it. BTW, I do like that 210 of yours!

My place of employment is considered critical infrastructure but people without critical needs still merrily walk right up with mundane and infectious inanity. I’d put it in the willful disregard category.

I hear ya, chuy. My favorite red flag from these morons usually starts with "Quick question: ...", as if they've thoughtfully narrowed it down for you :rollno:, but then ends with the equivalent of, "... what is the meaning of life?" Of course, I don't answer the way I'd really like to, but instead usually tell them something like, "Well, it's a long answer that I don't have time to get into right now. Check back later, when things calm down." Then, if they do check back later, it usually turns out they had either misstated the question, or misunderstood the problem they needed help with, or if I'm really lucky, someone else has wasted their time straightening them out! [/rant]

Uh, ... sorry about that, ... um, . . . . Carry on.
