The Combo Club

I have a Pau Ferro fingerboard on my MIM Fender P (lefty, of course) and I actually like it a lot. During the Christmas holidays, I took off the strings and cleaned the bass up. Even oiled the fingerboard. I have a weird quirk that I need to like the way my bass looks. Not as important as feel or sound, but I need to like the shape and the way the bass body, headstock, neck, and even pickguard looks together. Mine came with the white pickguard but kind of looking for a tort to go with the sunburst body. Unfortunately, it seems to me everyone hates lefties so it is tough to find one. I thought about contacting Fender directly to see if I can buy a lefty tort guard from their custom shop. I need one that matches the original. Not interested in drilling new holes in my bass. :rollno:

My avatar shows a righty, but I believe they can do lefty as well.

My twin brother! Probably ‘cuz we’re fellow lefties, right? I found a super-de-duper tort pick guard from Warmoth. Check them out if you haven’t. I believe there are a couple of holes that don’t line up, but nothing that affects the aesthetics. I can send ya a pic if you want to see. That white ‘guard didn’t do a thing for the looks at all.

I had my custom PG made by "Pickguardian"(no affiliation). He has many colors available, including tort(s).

@hieronymous posted his review-at-one-year of the li'l Foxy Vox VX50BA here. He uses an awesome Ric bass to do it, too! Worth a listen, especially for anyone looking for an ultralight weight combo amp..

and just as I contemplate pulling my distortion pedal* off my board, I hear this. And reminded that the Elf can do the same distortion. Sure, it's an amp setting instead of an on-off. Were the need to play gnarly distorted bass all night, crank that amp. While it's not really my thing, it's fun and definitely has a place. Prolly will pull the pedal for a tuner pedal and call it done.

* it is my first distortion pedal, be kind. Total pedal noob. The Pigtronix Disnortion is for six-stringers but I figured, sure, let's try, it's none too expensive. And can definitely get some major distortion out of it with no coaxing. And I can see the rabbit hole of overdrive to distortion is a great deal deeper than I wish to explore right now. It's fun to play with but doubt I actually need distortion ATM.

First I've seen your Thunderbird up close and sure have wondered about that pickguard. Now I know! Maybe one day a Thunderbird of my own to hold and squeeze and call him George.

@biguglyman how's by you and that GK that followed you to the gig?

I'm sure you've looked, but maybe Warmoth has a lefty pickguard option?

Gig tonite w/ sub drummer went OK. Crowd was about 1/2 what was expected for a St. Patrick's Day dinner/dance at a Knights of Columbus. Those who were there enjoyed the meal-and the music. We have another afternoon gig Wednesday but it's "on hold". I expect it to cancel.

That’s too bad, GP and to all the rest of you warriors out there.
MOur school district just canceled for what will probably be a month or so. For all the whining I do about not wanting to work this wasn’t what I meant. March is a busy month with state testing in the next ten days, but the state is pretty much going on hiatus until further notice.

We, as in the teachers, may get back in the building at a later date and begin making up for the days lost, but the kids may not see school until April sometime. What an absolute crazy way to live life right now.

We picked up some burgers tonight at Burger King and the kid told me they hardly had any business the entire day. Driving around, it was like a ghost town.

I empathize with all you who are losing gigs and income because of this virus. Hang in there, folks. I’m gonna use the time to do some early spring cleaning in my music room and get some serious time on the bass. TalkBass too!

We got notice today that the college is shut down. We will be attempting online delivery for the rest of the content for the term. The Spring term will likely be cancelled too. Not sure what will happen after that. Our provincial government cut funding significantly for post-secondary. I could lose my job. I'm having quite the year! Time will tell.
That all sucks. Good luck to you.
