My situation is kind of funny/strange. In most things I'm right handed, and this includes playing bass. Nonetheless, I am capable with my left hand in various ways. I found out a few years back that I actually shot archery left handed, which suggests that I'm actually left handed. So I'm confused a bit, but luck that I play bass right handed.

I'm similar in one way, but far more mediocre. Years ago, when playing bass in a metal band and working cutting sprues off of plastic parts during the day, I started developing tendinitis in my right wrist. Using my mouse made it worse so I switched to mousing with my left hand. Felt pretty comfortable, and I've stuck with it for 30 years now.

I have had a number of coworkers who upon first working with me at my workstation have commented, "I didn't know you were left handed." "I'm not." Puzzled look.

I feel for my left-handed friends who are thrust into a right-handed world.

Thank you for sharing this correspondence with the group. Fender's response was in line to what I was told a year ago when I was looking at a P bass and was on the fence between an MIA and a MIM and gave Fender's CS a call.

As a lefty who plays a lefty bass, we are truly a minority in the bass world. In fact, I can name way more famous lefties who play a RH bass upside down (with E string on bottom) than actual lefty bassists playing a lefty bass. Maybe 3:1 ratio?

Thankfully, my Rumble 25 is ambidextrous......

Brilliant, PT! It’d take a fellow leftie to one up with a empathetic way to remind us all its a cruel world out there, especially if you play your instrument upsides.

And now ya tell me. Here I’ve been purposely buying lefty amps because I heard they work in harmony with my basses!

Or like when the volume and tone knobs on our instruments spin the wrong direction and don’t make any sense until you get used to them. Does that make any sense? It does to a lefty.

As for the lefty/righty thing, I'm left handed in almost everything, throwing, batting, etc, and was of course, forced to change to write and eat right handed by the nuns from grade one on. Actually wrote left handed in kindergarten.
As for guitar, I was advised by many (on guitar forums, and a few friends that played) when I decided to learn to play guitar about 10 years ago to start off learning right handed, because it would be too much of a pain later to find guitars to try out and play and purchase, and in some cases, it would be impossible, that were for lefties, so that's what I did. I'm glad I did, but, no matter what, I'm still a lefty

I'm very happy with it. Keep in mind, it's my first bass, after 10 years playing guitar, but, that being said, I'm extremely happy with the tone through my Rumble 100, and love the neck. Fit and finish is actually quite good for so inexpensive an instrument. I've sent back Player tele's to Fender that were far worse. It was also an eye opener when I put La Bella DTF's on it, so smooth and easy on the fingers, and deeper, what I think of as P bass tone, than the strings it came with. Of course the strings it comes with may be low quality for all I know. Still, I love the feel of flats over the rounds by far.
I will say also that I use just the neck split PU about 90%+ of the time, and experiment with the bridge on occasion, but generally not my cup of tea.
Bottom line, I thought it would just be a cheapy to get to learn bass, then move on to something else once I knew what I wanted. But, now, I think I'll keep it as a backup, and in the daily rotation to play, even when my short scale P bass build is done.....whenever Warmoth opens back up and is caught up on what they have in the pipeline now, to order the body for it. i have almost everything else for it, roasted maple neck, SD 1/4 pounder PU, Res-O-Lite tuners, etc.

Good Saturday morning, CC! I am posting a link to the 1,500-musician Internet ensemble covering, "Rock You Like a Hurricane," that I participated in a couple of weeks ago. I was sent, like maybe some of you, and invite to jam along with, and accepted it almost immediately. Anything to give me even the slightest feeling that I was playing music with others and had a specific role with notes. It's a concert band style, so don't expect glaring guitars and do expect maybe a flute!

The piece drops at 11:00 AM CDT and is expected to break the Guinness Book of World Record of most musicians playing the same song during a coronavirus or something like that, I dunno. Jens, the guy who's in charge, has done a few of these from what I can tell and they're on YT. If you yourself have been part of something like this, please share your experience with us, especially if you used a combo amp! As for me, I don't remember what I used...but it may have been fruit-flavored.

All I know is I had fun doing it, though I really did need compression at the time, and if I come across another opportunity I will certainly do it again. If you're interested, let me know here and if anything comes up I'll post it.

Actually, I'm curious as well, to compare the two. I may like the roasted maple neck, because I have them on my two tele builds, and they are SO smooth and quick, no sticky finish, no break in period necessary, etc. That said, the neck on the TMB30 is great, and of course, speed is not really as big a factor in a bass as a guitar, so no biggie there. After that, I suspect the PU will be the biggest difference, for tone anyway, and swapping out the neck PU in the Ibby is always an option down the road, as well as the tuners, though I have no tuning issues or neck dive whatsoever. But then, two different PU's is just two different tones, and that can be a good thing as well The TMB weighed in at 7.8 lbs on my fish scale, and I expect the short scale P bass build to be in the 6.5-7.0 lb range. All the parts + neck are right about 3 lb, so it all depends on the body weight (I expect 3 1/4 - 3 3/4 lb when I order) to see where the total will be.

Yay!! Mikie!! You're world famous, once again! Congratulations! They couldn't have done it without you! If that was 1,500 musicians, I was surprised to see about 150 bassists before spotting you!?! And you were only the 2nd lefty bassist I noticed!?! What a wonderful event to be a part of.

With that many bassists, I'd be very surprised if there aren't more TBers on there. But, I did a few searches and didn't find anyone else here posting about this, yet. I'll keep an eye out for more, if you will.

Now I’ll have to actually watch it and look closely. I just heard it this morning and only through the phone’s speakers.

What you could have done is had your camera on reverse image and then it looks like you are playing "normal". Then offer bonus points in the club for anyone that can pick you out with the aid of being ab-normal....I mean left handed.
