The Combo Club

I'm still on the fence about getting the Vox combo too...first world problems indeed

I very much like the Vox stuff. It lacks the big boom and, to me, does have that more vintage tubey kind of tone to it.

Hey, if we ever get back to normal, I’ll sell you my combo for a ridiculous price and even meet ya halfway. I’m in eastern Iowa. My mint combo is sitting in the bleachers watching the game right now because the SuperBeetle stole away the space for my getaway bedroom rig.

The probability of me owning a recording setup prior to quarantine was effectively zero. In this moment, though, it appears to be the only way of presenting myself as reasonably competent. The shiny Trace Elliot sticker that came with the Elf will fit on top of the PreSonus perfectly. What I find annoying about the PreSonus is the absence of a power switch. Certain I'll find many more annoying things about recording. I've plenty of complaints about the number of takes I need with my cell phone.

We are so in tune today. I abhor recording even though I like what it allows you to receive after you’re done. I’m more of a live, play for the moment music person (in other words, mistakes galore!); if you missed the show that’s too darn bad. But the work moves on and recording to your computer is how it’s done now.

M, I don’t think any of the reasonably-priced interfaces have on/off switches. I still have to learn my little box and the software that I’m using. What, all of a sudden we’re all recording experts or something? Lucky for me, I like experimenting, as you know, so I’ll figure it out this summer.

Let’s keep this discussion going over the coning months, though I know it’s a stretch in the CC. I am going to hand you up on your suggestion of running the doppio quattro into the Presonus via line out. I’m curious to how clean compared to a DI.

I’m very excited about all this even though we just figured out next year’s class lists!

al1980...congratulations, my man! You’ve got a great example of the Fender legacy. If I might offer you a suggestion, find something in the house to serve as a wedge in order to angle the speaker up closer to your ear. Otherwise, let ‘er rip and let us know your thoughts on how it sounds to ya. Again, congrats!

Thanks for the heads up on the shirt. I'm pretty well stocked on Hawaiian shirts though. I get them for $3.69 @ Goodwill. I doubt if 7ender can beat that price.

GP, you’d giggle to see the price on that dang shirt. 98% cotton, tortoise shell buttons. You could be buried in it and people would think it was appropriate. $70, my friend. How many do you want G’Dog to order for ya? We’ll put it on the club tab...

Wow, we have a black market operation right under of very noses! Hmm...I wonder what a Rolex would cost? I don’t know if I wanna find out.

Psst...buddy. Can ya find me a left-handed Fender Mustang in a natural wood finish with a rosewood fingerboard? Case too. Thanks!

What??? :nailbiting:

I believe there’s plenty available. I’m actually wondering how well they’re doing, sales wise? I hope well because that’ll spur VOX into going deeper down the bunny hole and finally building a gig-worthy unit. It seems we can only dream about it right now.

Yeah kind of taxing to think about who offers great looking, great sounding, giggable combos :p

Just posted this as a NAD.

Hi All,

I bought this on the local used market back in late January 2020 but just posting about it now. I didn't do any gigs with it but have been really testing it out in all other aspects - quiet rehearsal, loud banging out when no one is home, headphones, DI, Aux In, etc.

It sounds like it looks compared to the Markbass 2x10" combo = it's a little louder and a little fuller,..... and it seems to go really low with clear, clean low end.

Comparing the "Markbass sound" to the "GK sound", the GK is quicker with a little more ultra lows & ultra highs.

I like the Markbass and will never get rid of it (mainly because of the wedge monitor angle) but now fully understand why people talk about the low mid bump of it's "flat" sound. In other words, I can really hear the difference when compared to the GK 2x12" combo.

Interestingly enough, I put my Aphex Punch Factory Optical Compressor pedal (set low on the drive control) in-front of the GK combo and it "reminded" me of the Markbass. Not to say that the Marbass is "compressed",..... the pedal just slowed down the quickness of the GK which reminded me of the Markbass.

As I really researched the MB212-II before purchasing it, I want to thank everyone that wrote something about it. Therefore, if anyone has any questions, let me know how I can help.

Big Benner

007,

You can tell him that I’m in...

:bassist: HEAVEN!!! :bassist:

By the way, how much in black market terminology is “phenomenal?” Just thought I’d ask since I’ll be spending all the shekels I’ve saved from mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, pillaging weaker combo clubs...you know, stuff Fearless Leaders do to earn their loot.

Whatever it is, I’ll pay it because that is one sexy bass that needs my mitts wrapped around it. You know, Sargent at Arms, my birthday is coming up in June. Just sayin’...

Thanks ‘Dog, I knew I could count on ya! :hyper:
