That’s a very nice-looking setup, Cracker7. After it’s broken in a bit, please give us a review. I don’t remember the last time we had a big Ampeg combo in our midst. I thought it was a great-sounding combo that wasn’t afraid to get loud. Enjoy, C7!
Before heading off to bed I decided to fly in and see what's been a-happening. Pretty quiet three days from the looks of it but I've been busy myself prepping for our final week of school. While I'm looking forward to it I have to admit I'm gonna miss the fifth grade because we've been together for two years. What I'm not gonna miss is the business of school and trying to figure out what we're going to do in three months. But I digress...
Finally got my Fender flats on and I heard something that I haven't heard for a while...harmonic frequencies above 250 Hz. Love the LaBellas but top-end is not in their playbook and now I know that. I saved them in case a P-bass enters my domain at some point, but it was nice to hear a little clank today, though that sound annoys me until the flats settle in. Then, it's nirvana.
Already replaced the Stage 800 now that it's up-to-date. It's just not a small practice room amp, IMHO. Too big, too boomy, and the volume sits at 1.5, which is too low for a better tone. So it's put away and that darn PJB is back! I've got the Ampeg combo plugged in another part of the room and can use it anytime, but I decided to let the Double four take center stage again. I really enjoyed playing it a couple of weeks ago. I hope I'm not turning into a tea and croissants snob!
Oh yeah, my tube came in. No, not tubes like normal people, just one preamp tube. I'm keeping the Chinese 12AT7 in the effects loop because I thought it sounded fine, but I am swapping out its 12AX7 for a JJ gold pin. Should be a little warmer (if I can hear the difference) and I've enjoyed using JJ's in the past. The Orange is resting up for the next Corona special Orchestra recording coming up soon...Eye of the Tiger.
Jens, the director, has decided to make this a monthly project for anyone who's interested and is putting out two offers: pay an annual fee of $40 for 12 months worth of music (one song per month) or pay by the month and have the option of skipping a song if you aren't into it @ $4.00 per. I decided to play the year knowing he's going to mix the genres. That's fine, our community concert band would play an Eagles tribute followed by Battle Hymn of the Republic. This gives me something to look forward to in case we're stuck underground throughout the next school year. Here's the website if you're interested in checking it out:

The most awesome Hawaiian shirt that said, Beyond Plaid to me! Check it out if you can. It's orange and red with Hula girls, palm trees, cocoanuts (I think), and a cool vibe...until I saw the price. Whew!
I'll try and be on a more than last week as this one winds down. The countdown to Friday begins now!

Call a breakfast a cappuccino and chocolate croissant and the PBJ Double Four is even sweeter 
The Ampeg BA108 Plus is for my daily practice, and for those improbable hours when quiet is considered normal. Set up directly behind my practice chair in monitor position, my bum gets first notice of what I'm playing. And sounds absolutely fine at low volume. The AUX In connects with my phone, where a metronome app with a timer runs. The app is called Tempo and sees daily use with the 'Peg. No recollection if it's free or some minor cost?
Plug into either rig flanking the practice amp and things shake, even at low volume. Didn't really expect a practice amp to do that, then? The 'Peg is a practice amp, and to the surprise of all, I am actually practicing with specific goals and intent. Which means recording, which I'm not actually fond of, but there it is.
The display on the Vox tuner is big enough to read without glasses. My preference is not to wear glasses on stage, and I can see just fine save for the part about bifocals.
Hafta admit an Orange Terror is a really interesting amp and awaiting reports of tube rolling.

I had the same problem with my fender 500 rumble combo, too big and boomy when we moved here. The club poopah’d me when I asked about it. Always kept the volume low which made it sound like crap. Good morning, red! The description you offer is that baked-in tone that, if used judiciously, is what Fender is also famous for. I’ve owned three separate Rumble rigs and, to my ears, there’s that overly EQ’ed lower-mid tone and lowering the volume makes everything else in the frequency range disappear.
Thr crazy thing is with the 800 is if you get it out into open spaces it cleans up and sounds so much better. In other words, all stage, no studio. I guess you but the Studio 40 for home!
My practice room is terrible, acoustically-speaking and must be given the lions share of my sonic woes. It’s lousy. But every time I finish playing that combo I say to myself, “Why do I use that here, it sounds woeful?” So as I begin working on “Eye of the Tiger,” I’m using the Little Big Man until it’s time to record and summer vacation is here.

My recording option here is a practice room that's far below any expectations of even sonic mediocrity is a new Presonus Audiobox USB 96. It'll take a line out from the PJB BG-400, or the DI from the Elf. Likelihood is the VT Bass will be the preamp, and I'll monitor with headphones. Soon as I have a quarter-inch to eighth-inch headphone adapter, that is.
Believe me in a bigger room it sounded great, but I had to turn it up to do so and it was painfully loud in smaller spaces. I totally dig the tone but it was not right for where we moved to. I'm more than happy with the Acoustic combo, the Quilter setup and especially the MEsa WD800...quite set for toanz
And M, that said Presonus is currently residing in the torture room’s closet ready to come out soon. I was thinking the same thing but I’m holding off until I can get serious with some recording. Gee, if I lived next door to ya I’d loan you my 1/4 to 1/8 plug.
While I will try the PBJ-to-Presonus setup, I think my recording rig for the June 2020 song will be the Orange with it’s DI to the interface for my ears while my wife’s iPhone does the recording I send.
On a side note, Morrighan, I’m happily envious of you and what seems to be your near-boot camp regiment while you’re holed up like the rest of us. You must so ready to get out there and begin playing and I, for one, am not. I need to woodshed so bad and I know it. Kudos to you! Hopefully I’ll get there over the summer.
I'm still on the fence about getting the Vox combo too...first world problems indeed

The probability of me owning a recording setup prior to quarantine was effectively zero. In this moment, though, it appears to be the only way of presenting myself as reasonably competent. The shiny Trace Elliot sticker that came with the Elf will fit on top of the PreSonus perfectly. What I find annoying about the PreSonus is the absence of a power switch. Certain I'll find many more annoying things about recording. I've plenty of complaints about the number of takes I need with my cell phone.

Thanks for the heads up on the shirt. I'm pretty well stocked on Hawaiian shirts though. I get them for $3.69 @ Goodwill. Alanloomis1980, I think that you will find that the Rumble 25 will be a nice practice amp for home use.
I use my Rumble 25 Combo probably 4-5 days a week. My practice room is my man cave/gym in the basement. A 12'x12' carpeted room with a drop ceiling. I usually plug into the Rumble 25 during the week. Quick and easy, and I can get a pretty good sound out of it. The aux in is nice for backing tracks. Obviously not as good as my Rumble 500 Head and 1x15 cab, which only comes out on the weekends when I really turn up the volume (and annoy my wife).
So far I’m loving it! I used to have the Ampeg BA of the same size, so I was pretty confident the power level would be plenty. I just wanted something with a smaller footprint (than my R100) that I could leave out in the living room and move around the house. I’ve been using the vox amplug, but I’ve gotten so sick of the headphones!
