The Combo Club

Speaking of supersonic

just to keep things interesting

.... produced by Sir Paul

So I just saw this and wondered if it was recommended that the viewer be under the influence of something prior to watching?

I’d heard about these guys before but, admittedly, never heard their music. Goofy, but catchy too.

Well seen. A careful viewer will notice the Bonzos in Magical Mystery Tour, and in The Rutles movie. They just won a long (and expensive) lawsuit for the right to use their own name. They're presently working to ensure this legal loophole is closed.

Two comments:

1. Thanks for embedding this video on here because it’s great info. And to think, I was just about name and copyright my Jazzer as “Solstice Eve.”

2. M, did ya have to put in my head the beauty, usefulness, and fun of a pedalboard? Drats, now I have to take a serious look at C7’s Voodoo Labs’ Dingbat. Thanks! :bored:

I thought I’d share with you the latest song vote for the Corona Orchestra piece. Received the nominations today and after a strong recommendation from #2, finally made my decision. Just want to see what you all would prefer. Here we go:

Smoke on the Water; the theme song from Frozen, Let it Go; Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, or theme song from 007’s Goldeneye (Tina Turner).

At this time two of the songs are neck-and-neck, with a third a ways behind, and the fourth barely out of the gate.

So what say you? And what do you think I chose? A rocker because that’s me? Succumbed to Wifey’s BBQ ribs this evening and did her bidding? Zigged instead of zagging and chose no one’s Fave?

The floor is yours. :)

Well, for me, Smoke on the Water has the coolest groove. Frozen is not my jam, so pass. Knockin is a song my old band (OK, one of my old bands) used to cover, so I have a soft spot in my heart for that one. And I don't really remember the theme from Goldeneye, so I would not vote for that without refreshing my memory of it.

I'm guessing you chose Love Gun from KISS just to really confuse things! :woot:

What did I win? :hyper:

I'd like to propose George Harrison's "Here Comes The Sun"! It's a venerable classic rock anthem with a great upbeat message that even today's young people can groove to. Just one of, probably, hundreds that could fill that bill.

But, if it has to be one of those four, I gotta vote "Smoke...", no contest, or I'd have to turn in my GOF card. "Knockin'..." is OK in small doses, but I don't see it really being that moving, even as an orchestral piece. "Goldeneye" is really a cool song, but not very catchy, or IMHO again, not really that moving. Alas, assuming a preponderance of younger, non-GOF, musicians voting to perform, I'd expect "Let It Go" to win.

Just my $0.02.
.

Far from a fan of Deep Purple, it's difficult to cast my vote for Smoke on the Water. It's also difficult not to vote for Smoke on the Water. If we're talking about what Deep Purple is singing about my nomination would have to be for a Zappa groove of the era (Road Ladies) but those lyrics aren't for a wider audience. Spinning up some Chunga's Revenge now to counteract Deep Purple ....

To my dear crew, thank you for your thoughts. You all, for the mist part thought like the rockers you are, but alas, this is a concert orchestra and that means, IMHO, even the nasties will be homogenized for all ages. With that, I can tell you the current totals:

1) Goldeneye - 88 votes (37%)

2) Let it Go - 80 votes (34%)

3) Knockin’ - 46 votes (19%)

4) Smoke - 24 votes (10%)

So as you can see, it’s gonna be a real challenge to talk them into any Black Sabbath. I agree with 007 ‘Dog, Goldeneye is okay, but doesn’t have much in the way of pizzazz. Knockin’ is the same too. Kinda one-dimensional, though soulful. Smoke on the Water is fine, but a group of his did it a couple of months ago and I don’t why anyone would wanna do it again.

That leaves Frozen...my pick. At first I was gently persuaded to pick it, but after listening to the Disney soundtrack it’s really not too bad. More dynamic than the others, though I think I’ll be sitting out for half of it!

Currently, there’s 400 in the orchestra so who knows, maybe SotW will bring it home. I think it was my first song learned on guitar, if I recall.

Wrapping it up, Klaus Meine, singer of the Scorpions, did a quick YouTube blurb
congratulating the group on the record breaker. It was cool, it was classy, and it was in German. The scary thing is I’m beginning to understand it better.

I ordered this on Dec 10 and it finally showed up .I'll play it more tonight after work but here's a few pics

minronee, I believe you are the first I’ve seen here to show off one of these babies. Put your time into it and please give us a blow-by-blow report. I brought up the amp many moons ago and was soundly browbeaten by my contemporaries here. Let’s see what it does, minronmee. Have fun!
