The Combo Club

That's precisely what I would have done! A proper Thunderbird pickup (or two).

Word is (to believe what I read here) the pickups on the Epi Thunderbird Vintage Pro are crackerjack.
I have a Epi Embassy that sounds great, I put a Curtis Novak Tbird in the DC Jr....absolute great tone at all settings

A bunch if us in Thunderbird Club are crying out for an Epi VP NR 'Bird. It prolly won't happen due to limited sales. IDK how many they'd hafta get pre-orders for to justify building them. I'm afraid an SS version would have even less marketability, though an SS NR VP, etc. also sounds interesting. Hmm.

While no more amplification is needed where I am (right now! LOL), looking to exchange a few clams for TV Jones pickups for my semi-hollowbody Chowny. Timeframe is October-ish but now that I think of it, a few weeks sooner. Expecting my mobility to be pretty limited in October and November owing to planned fusion surgery in my right foot. :meh:

Love the TV Jones stuff, pickup height is the key to those. Too low and the are horrible, just right and they punch guts....no fun on the foot surgery

Is it too late to join, 486 pages in? I am not afraid to admit I have never owned a head-cab rig.

My first gig rig was a Peavey Combo 210TX, tough as nails and sounded pretty good, especially at 300W with the extension 2x10. But, it was ridiculously heavy and too bulky to fit in the cars I was driving at the time, so I left it at church where I was gigging it most often, and eventually just left it behind completely when I changed churches. I still regret that, it was a great amp, but call it a donation to a worthy cause.

Since then, my primary amp has been a Fender Bassman 150 kickback. At 150W through a 1x12, it's got plenty of oomph for acoustic-type gigs without a traditional drumkit, which has been my gig for a decade or more. However, it's been marginal at rehearsals with my new band and our drummer, so it's finally time for an upgrade.

The upgrade? MarkBass CMD102P, 300W 2x10 combo extendable to 500W with an extension cab. It's on the delivery truck today, I've been bouncing around in my seat all morning thinking about it.

Never too late for such a dedicated combo-ite! Fearless Leader will be along shortly to induct you officially though, technically, you should probably post a pic of your current combo first; or a pic of the freshly unboxed new combo!

I LOVE my Bassman 150 112 combo. Like your Peavey, it's currently at my church gig, which I DO plan to return to someday after isolation. It was enough for some venues, but I chained a Bassman 250 115 to it for bigger gigs.

Good for you, Liko! Welcome to The Club! Also, checkout the Combo Club Wiki page, linked in my signature, for orientation. ;)

Here it is, fresh from the NAD thread...

BTW, MF has an 'open box' black D4 for $422.39

That’s exactly what I’d recommend! You’ll save $50 and end up with a fine combo. It’ll come with the cables needed to operate, a 1/8” to 1/8” cable for your Aux In, and a personalized photo of Morrighan, I believe. She’s a big wig with PJB, ya know!

Good hunting, bass player from FLA!

Sad news for the club...
I brought back the ba210 and got a GK Legacy 800 and cx115. This little pair is killer. Holy sh:7. And my new Nash PB63 came in today too. What a great day.

I still have my ba108 v2 though

Hey, that’s the way it goes sometimes. I actually like the 20 best of the entire line! What ya bought instead sounds like it’ll break some windows, no doubt.

C7, what happened to the 210? The sound? Size and weight? Too old school? I’m dying to know.

Though we may not hear from ya as much now, you’ll always be a CC member!

Thanks for having me, but it was the weight. Everything else was great. This cx115 is like 15 pounds lighter though and the legacy 800 is awesome. Still going to use the little Ampeg for bedroom practice sometimes.

Auktually, it's a red Double 4 that's open box. I'm sore tempted, but will defer to my friend GonePlaid if he says he wants it.

Ooh, a PJB dual! RodRy vs. Gone Plaid. Who will prevail as the new owner of the prized Double Four? May the best, or should I say fastest with the credit card, bring home the bounty.

Actually fellas, there’s more than enough to go around. GP, being RR so graciously offered you first dibs, you should give the purchase every consideration, especially if it’s a Red Special. Just prepare yourself for a clean, detailed reflection of your playing.

Yep, the weight and monitor-shape is something everyone has to deal with who is contemplating owning it. I’d have loved side handles and have seen some owners install them. It’s just too dang bulky for my old back, but did sound great.
