When do you sleep??
At 2:30 AM, I'm still in dreamy-time. Lexicat has not even jumped on the bed to tell me she's hungry yet. That started just after 6 AM this morning. She let me sleep in a bit.

Who sleeps? I’m cat-like, RR. A few minutes here, a few minutes there. Then I’m standing in your kitchen snacking on your tortilla chips and salsa at 1:30 AM. Oh, wait, that was my kitchen.

The bombs and rockets were going off last night like it was WW III so I decided to stay up and play because with all the time spent recording, I haven’t hardly enjoyed making music without a graph staring at me on on my screen. I had fun too!

Yip, I always tune the G first, then across / down to E. And for no particular reason, either. When I put new strings on, though, I always string the E first, then G, A, D. I enjoy installing new strings, and getting to know them. For now, both basses have good string matches (Chowny CHB-1 = La Bella LTFs, Stingray = D'Addario tapewound). Careful now with strings on the Ray as this old truss rod ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be. Careful with the 'Ray in general.

I also take all the strings off at the same time (booing and hissing ensues from the crowd) because I do a complete cleaning of the neck and don’t want strings in the way. I’m not saying it’s the only way, but it is for me. And this is coming from the guy with a set neck that’s rather delicate and never had any issues.

Just having a hard time understanding Geddy, Harris, and Butler going through a 500/1. Not that I disbelieve you, just that my feeble imagination does not cover this much ground.

My sound is...well, I don't know. Just what I like I guess. It changes depending on what bass I'm playing. Which is why I have 9 basses, none of which has a twin in my house.

Yeah, everyone expects that I'm going for the Macca tone but that's not completely my thing. He is an influence for sure, but not as much as the others I mention in terms of tone. With the 500/1 I get a woody, and little boomy, tone and then I add some Harris clank a bit and some Geddy grit and twang. There is a sample of a guy online using a 500/1 that has tone similar to what I have and like. I'll post it later. My son is using the TV/computer right now.

( every next string that gets near in-tune tension, will flatten the previous string) the second run I tune in pitch. finally I check if the G is still in tune after the second run. So the order is G-D-A-E-B-G-D-A-E-B-G And the red G is the correct answer for the one I tune first.

We just sold our last vehicle to have either a cassette player or cd player (it had both in ‘08!).

I'm still recording my CD's to Cassette so I can use them in my car

That's a good point. I always check the tuning of every string after I tune them all. If a string is sharp, I de-tune flat and tune up to pitch.

Interesting method. You’ve obviously put some thought into it and I respect that. It’s neat how it seems everyone has their own way of arriving to the same destination.

Very enjoyable video. Beautiful bass too. Is that from the Hofner site because the player looked familiar.

Believe it or not, Doc, I have never used a pick with my Rogue. I can’t see my fingers even wanting to hold one next to a bass. It’s fingers for me.

Watched it and, as usual, it was fun to see Dave in action. That floating bridge will drive any sane person crazy! Believe it or not, after my first Rogue BB broke, I bought an Epi Viola, thinking it should be identical to the one it replaced because they're, from what I understand, all out of the same Cort factory in China. Nothing could be further from the truth, at least for me. That guy and I not only couldn't get on the same page. Heck, we weren't in the same book! Nothing I did could get me even slightly close to my rogue and it went bye-bye quickly.

A few years later, buy another Rogue and I'm back in Happyland again. They shoulda put flats on that bass though.

I am surprised by the difference in PUP spacing between the Hofner 501 and the Rogue/Epiphone. The Hofner is much closer to the neck PUP. I would be interested in knowing what differences this makes, @Doctor Intrepid?

I am surprised by the difference in PUP spacing between the Hofner 501 and the Rogue/Epiphone. The Hofner is much closer to the neck PUP. I would be interested in knowing what differences this makes, @Doctor Intrepid?

This example of the 500/1 is called the Cavern spec., because the spacing of the pickups is closer together. It is called this because it was this kind of bass that Macca played at the Cavern Club. In the 62 and after the pickups on the 500/1s are spaced far apart with one pickup at the neck and the other at the bridge.
