The Combo Club

Good morning/afternoon/evening to whoever is reading this post. I'm in between things but wanted to stop by and send well wishes. My life, this week, has changed and it comes down to one word: s_ h_ o_. Play around with that one, GP. All I ask is, where has my incredibly relaxing vacation gone? We're still in single digits, in July, for goodness sake.

A not to any Presonus owners in the CC: there's a new Studio version out. Studio 5 is now available, but I haven't looked into it any further. Just thought in case you hadn't heard, now ya have.

If anyone has any gear updates, gigging rumors, or something that'll tickle we bass-playing enthusiasts, please take the podium and have at it.

But, Alice told me that school's out for summer.

*_c_o_l, when done right, does have a tendency to change people's lives! I get that. And, this year of course, it's a really big deal. Lots of schemes being floated to make it safe.

But, if you mean single July digits ending your vacation, they are wrong fo' dat!! It was bad enough when it started creeping into August! I vote for the old skool tradition of Tuesday after Labor Day to start the Fall Semester.

@swink
Many 4 and 5rs use HPFs. Check out my thread on the topic for lots more info: High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

Yes, you need one!

intersting to hear the VLE on my markbass acts similar to a LPF as I kinda thought it was what I would imagine. I am gonna get a HPF.

Think I will do the always on one bc I don’t see why I would turn it off if it behaves as I hope. Unless you have suggestion for one you think will be better. Thank you so much for the link

Many who use the Always On HPF mount theirs on the underside of the pedalboard, to judge from TB posts.

"Always on" works for me. You only dial it in when you need it (higher volume, to reduce boom/mud from room acoustics, improve tone) you will hear the difference and your speaker(s) will thank you. @Stumbo has all the details.

Oh, and I do not have a pedal board...just zip-tied it to my Combo along with a OneSpot power supply. Haven't used pedals since I sold my bike ;),

Wow, a pretty robust day of inspired prose by all. I read through everyone’s posts and decided the big winner was the HPF discussion.

I enjoyed Doc’s Hofner Bass family account, traveling down Dave Clark’s Lane (or whichever band you guys were talking about), but most of all, ‘Dog’s best effort to figure out my Hangman-like unfinished message.

Yep, this week school has crept back into what’s been a pretty mellow summer, as our admin is right now determining whether or not to literally pack up the entire three-class fifth grade (desks and all) and ship us to the middle/high school building until further notice beginning in August.

It’s in the planning stages only, but they need to thin the herd at the elementary in order to increase social distancing. One class would be a fitness room, one in a study hall, and we think the third class in one of their gyms. Science experiments will take on a whole new vibe! We were told it may be temporary or for as long as is needed.

My concern is we’re gonna start out together for a month or two and then have to shut down and go back to distance learning. Oh, it’s gonna be interesting!

Finally, being the staff working at school will be labeled essential workers, I’m leaving my basses to Polish Thunder because he’s the only one of you who can play them. RR gets my little red loaf of bread because he needs it; Doc gets both VOX amps so they he may continue his building-blocks project, GP snags the new Rumble 115 cab to go with his 200c; Lady M scores my Ampeg + so she can add another sweet combo behind her backside for practice; G’Dog picks up the Stage 800 for all I’ve put him through the past fifty years; the Rumble 100 will auctioned off to the bidder closest to 100, but I’m taking the Terror Bass with me in case George Harrison wants to jam. Don’t worry, I’ll find my own cab...

Good night, all! :) :D

It’s that row of polished sticks at your feet under the console organ in the back of the church.

No no no, you got it all wrong! The console organ is up front, right behind the bishop. My mother-in-law takes a pair of short socks along on the Sundays she is assigned to play so her feet don’t get too cold...

ohnoes

because I've Orange Terror on my mind. SO.

Hanging out here with enough rig to play any venue I can see with every indication the venues are closed. Which means concentrating right now on some hazard exercises as I drill in triads on a diatonic sequence. Seems as good a thing to do as any.

I gather the preamp on the Orange Terror is pretty special, even apart from the tube. Tubes? It helps to know the sciencey stufff what makes a preamp go it I'm going to learn to adjust it beyond fiddling "till it sounds good". If I follow this convo correctly, the Orange preamp works more like a Fender preamp? I think all I know about Fender preamps is when MID is dimed the mids are flat.

Oh, Yeah! Oh, Yeah! Oh, Yeah! (Not that I want anything bad to happen to Fearless Leader.) But ... I'm gettin' a Rumble Stage 800! I'm gettin' a Rumble Stage 800! I'm gettin' a Rumble Stage 800!
