because I've Orange Terror on my mind. SO.

Hanging out here with enough rig to play any venue I can see with every indication the venues are closed. Which means concentrating right now on some hazard exercises as I drill in triads on a diatonic sequence. Seems as good a thing to do as any.

I gather the preamp on the Orange Terror is pretty special, even apart from the tube. Tubes? It helps to know the sciencey stufff what makes a preamp go it I'm going to learn to adjust it beyond fiddling "till it sounds good". If I follow this convo correctly, the Orange preamp works more like a Fender preamp? I think all I know about Fender preamps is when MID is dimed the mids are flat.

The TB is definitely special, IMHO. To my ears, it’s the most interesting tone I own. Not the cleanest or most transparent, but by far the most musical, and it’s usually in idling. I use my use my OD pedal to add some fur and it deliciously burbles along. Yeah, there’s only one tube, but Orange is actually using it.

I love modeling amps, they’re great fun. I’ve fallen in love with the PJB and it’s spectacular ability to relay to my ears exactly what my playing sounds like, and the Vox amps sound better than anyone who hasn’t tried them, but the Terror Bass is my desert island bass amp. It’s the true total package and Morrighan, you would love it!

Now where’s the darn combo version of it with a 112 speaker?

With care I could easily drive both PJB Cab 27s with an Orange Terror. Or, you know, start adding other cabs .... Revsound 210?

And recalling my own association with the colour as the owner of a very orange 1975 VW Golf. Which is as much fun as anyone that age might see (and to be here to tell of it)

I think all I know about Fender preamps is when MID is dimed the mids are flat.

I forget to respond to this part. Noon settings on the TB, from what I understand, is not flat. My reading suggested dropping the bass and treble to around 10:00 while leaving the mid control straight up. Anyone feel free to add more to what I’ve seen.

For my room’s acoustics, I drop the bass to 10:00-10:30 and that tightens my violin bass up, but typically leave M and T at noon or close to it. It’s only a three-band EQ, but the controls have pretty decent reach.

Finally, the amp plays much better with the 115 than my Ampeg 210. My ears love that big bass sound!

RR gets my little red loaf of bread because he needs it; Doc gets both VOX amps so they he may continue his building-blocks project, GP snags the new Rumble 115 cab to go with his 200c; Lady M scores my Ampeg + so she can add another sweet combo behind her backside for practice; G’Dog picks up the Stage 800 for all I’ve put him through the past fifty years; the Rumble 100 will auctioned off to the bidder closest to 100, but I’m taking the Terror Bass with me in case George Harrison wants to jam. Don’t worry, I’ll find my own cab...

My dad had a mid-seventies rabbit in a pale yellow that he bought from a guy who took immaculate care of it. The thing road like a lumber wagon. Yes, handled well, but the ride was so punishing it hurt to drive our town streets. Always needed something to be fixed too. He still liked it though.

Me too, with installing from low to high. I also take all the strings off at the same time (booing and hissing ensues from the crowd) because I do a complete cleaning of the neck and don’t want strings in the way. I’m not saying it’s the only way, but it is for me. And this is coming from the guy with a set neck that’s rather delicate and never had any issues.

No salvos being launched here. I do the same when I plan on properly cleaning the instrument.

I think you are onto something. I did own a combo amp until after I sold the Golf. Then I got a bigger amp and cabinet set.

Plus, I just love 3 door hatchbacks. So hard to find these days.

Wow, after following that link about scope reading, I realized that the Rumble club is a strange land. Either those cats are so used to sarcasm that they use it without putting in the occasional nod or wink for us rubes, or they are getting close to the occasional dumpster fire.
