and here in the time of very tiny things that invade our bodies 'effin you don't watch out, my combo is doing post EQ DI recording duty. As a complete noob to recording — and as one who considers recording myself to be somewhere in the neighborhood of wrestling a bear for a Kit Kat on my bucket list — I'm just learning how to get a good sound. Which, apparently, is a good thing.
For in addition to the work I'm already doing, I agreed to a collaboration with a lady who needs a bass for two original songs. Third lady in the mix is a pro six stringer, and she will do her thing once we've got a bass line. Which means I've been passed a hot potato
Nobody's transcribed the head and in a magical world of rainbow unicorns and merry leprechauns, there's always a head to work from 
In the course of my own recording work, post-EQ DI from both the Elf and PJB is just two different flavours of good.
My subway rig I had last year. WD800, subway 112 and 115. That rig was killer but I really Didn’t need all that or want to carry it around. Lol
Yes, I certainly understand that Mesa gear is very expensive and out of reach for most weekend warriors and working musicians. I Had to save up for a long time....but my thought process was that before I pass from this earth, or my body fails me and I can no longer play, I wanted to own and play through a dream rig. I’m not into bikes, but a Harley would have been a whole lot more

You’re latest sounds like a ton of fun. Anytime I see the word “pro,” I think that our playing better be good, and yours will be with all the boot camp-style practicing you’ve been doing these past months. You got this!
Please keep reminding us how much of a noob you are with home recording, okay? It still gives me hope that I’ll also get there myself. One day though, you won’t be and I bet you’re closer than ya think.

haha yeah I'm still doing boot camp practice!
Our alleged musical collaboration is incidental to the greater work we undertake in that community. The songwriter is a beginner-intermediate flutist and singer with modest piano skills. So that's three things she does I don't do — no flute, no piano, no singing
The guitarist is a former cruise ship gig type player who teaches music now. We're all in the same age bracket 
and I do view this as a considerable challenge (for me).Looks the the bear got the Kit Kat and I got a Webcam and a DI.

As someone who has still not recorded himself playing anything, I'm excited for all those who are stepping into that brave new world.
As far as your new contribution, I clicked on it only to find that I'll need to wait another 2 hours before I can get "Happy."

I started to go the route of audio interface and XLR microphone when I started taking online Skype lessons, trying to match my teacher's setup. Due to issues with Skype using only one channel, the teacher could hear me speak but not my bass, I decided I want to focus on bass and not the recording end of music.
I returned the setup and got a USB mic with an adapter to plug into my phone so I can record myself. Is the audio top quality? Nope. But it sounds way better than the phone alone and I can download the video to YouTube to share as needed. Plus I can study my playing technique, rhythm, and tone more critically from a recording than while I am actually playing a song.
Hey, all of us are at different skill levels and experience and need to focus on what is best for us individually. It is a personal journey for each one of us.

I'm perfectly willing to add a full professional studio to my home. :: looks around for the money ship ::
No need to wait for the money. Just wait until Antifi is "peacefully" protesting in a neighborhood near you and when they start throwing bricks through the windows of a music store and looting the store, just hand them your list and ask them to pick up these items while they are spray painting and destroying the store.

My other little group is with my best bud, The Rev, on flute, cello on the keyboard, bass, brass, and lead vocal. Yeah, one of those types.
Along with him in Ohio he has his church music director who sings, plays piano, and is a wonderful violinist (or fiddler when they’re doing Americana).
The third long-distanced bandmate is a young fellow from the church who is playing acoustic rhythm guitar. He tends to be a little shy and while I think he chords well, he hides a bit.
If I ever make it back to Ohio, this will most likely be the group I’ll play with. We tried real-time online a couple of eeejrbds ago, but not much came out of it.
I wish G’Dog would hustle up the crew in the lab and improve this interweb thing so those of us trying to play music across the heavens can do it without latency, poor connections, bad mics, crappy software, and whatever else interferes with our musical goals.

Good one, RR! I watched it after mowing the lawn. I love his little girl. She’s the star of the show. I’m in awe of the number of quality musicians all playing the same song.
We have a forum for the orchestra and in the ‘Introduce Yourself’ thread the bios on some of these folks is truly impressive. I’d certainly be intimidated if we ever got together to rehearse!
Next up is “Goldeneye” from the Bond series. I’m already looking for a tuxedo and a martini glass to better look the part...
Great point, PT! We’re all getting into this supplement to our first love, playing music. These days, unless you’re content to entertaining yourself and close ones by, which is definitely okay, you’ll have to learn enough of the technology to get your jams out there.
We all know I’m not a huge fan, and like PT, would rather concentrate on playing bass, but since I’m shackled at home, I have to find another way to get my contributions to others.
As little a fish as I am in the CSO ocean, I would once again learn the recording process all over again to be able to participate!
