Wow, and 12,001 after looking back. No natter who trips the wire, we’re all family here. Speaking of, isn’t it time someone posts a new combo purchase? I mean, it seems like says since we last had a new one being displayed.
RodRy, are you next up? What’s the status with your GK? Asking for a friend.
Latest acquisition to go with the combo collection:1 used, not abused, Epi EB-0 replacing the Squier VM Jag SS
Very nice. How is the neck compared to the T-bird? Are you going modify it at all? I've heard there are nice replacement pickups for those. I've gone down the EB/SG hole a few times. I really like the way they look.
Well, after your gentle prodding, I wandered over to Reverb and found out that my offer for a replacement to my dear little MB150E-112 was accepted! Purchase made, waiting on shipping! When it arrives, I'll do a proper photo shoot and introduction.
There were a number of hoops to jump through in this purchase, mostly due to my attempts to talk the seller into shipping it rather than only doing local pick up. He was very cool about the whole thing, but our noobishness in the world of Reverb led to some unintended difficulties. Still, things are looking good now!
Plus I have my PBJ D4 in the meanwhile...

Same profile. My first real bass was an EB-3-same size and shape.No, no mods. This is gonna be my backup/tight spaces/hot FL weather bass. It will get a TRC(doesn't have one), but I intend to spare every expense.
I even replaced the (?) round wounds with a set of Chromes I took offa... something(?).

I doubt I'd be able to leave an Epi EB-0 alone. Then I'd have monies in a three hundred dollar bass. People roll tubes, too, in perfectly good amps. So I'm not alone!

Just relaxing, while in isolation, and watching rig breakdown videos. This is one of my favorite things to do! I'm not the only bassist to use multiple amps. Not all do, of course, but some notable bass players that do include Billy Sheehan and Mike Kerr. They both have crazy set ups. Kerr won't even detail what he has. I understand why. I think what he is doing is very innovative.
Hope you're feeling okay, DI. Have you done any playing while relaxing in your desert oasis? As bad as I feel for ya sitting home, I do envy your slower pace. I'm so glad we've got a three-day weekend right now. Of course, who else but I would be correcting two assessments at the same time? I mean, it's not November, ya know!
I think you like your dual amplification plan so I wouldn't change it. It's what makes you...you. Me? I'm swapping out the Stage 800 for the Orange/Fender combination with my pedals. I'm in search of a traditional tone with a little edge for 'Goldeneye,' and I think this rig just might do it. Have fun and stay safe, Doc!
Yeah, I am relaxing and feeling okay. We teach the kids when they are at different points. Each present their own challenges, but I always thinks my brothers and sisters in primary and secondary usually don't get enough time to work on stuff. My work can be intense, but for now I am good. I'm teaching some of my favorite stuff this year!
I hear ya. I think I finally figured out Google Meet this week. It's not much different compared to Zoom, but just enough that without a spare minute to work out the bugs I've had to do it on the fly. I've got kids in the classroom that I'm recording in, another classroom with kids, and then the online students. In all honesty, it'd be easier to have them all back or everyone is home online. Between that and the room cleanup after school every day, there's not much time to do anything else. That's why I prep late at night. No one can take away my Steely Dan at midnight! Oh well, what else would I be doing except playing bass and hanging out on TB?
Part of the narrative up here is that one reason why teachers in P&S are teaching face to face is to save the economy. That narrative is not wrong in my estimation. We can mandate online in post-secondary only because no one has to look after our students. I think our current practises are better than the past, but not without problems and sacrifices.I hear ya. While I agree with you that getting parents back to work can be provided by getting the kids back to school, I'm seeing children who should be in the building who aren't, and then they're not doing anything with us online. We even have a mom who is subbing at our school and her child is home not turning anything in. In Iowa, our motivation is as much political as it is anything else and that's the part that upsets a lot of us.
Onto better news. I just revised the music room rig and here it is. First time with the Precision. The TB gives my bass more access to its burbling tone that I quite fancy. Less dark with more bite. Now I just need another human to try it out with! Morrighan, I think you'd approve of this setup.

Congrats GP. I actually went the other way, I used to have an Epi EB0, then got a Gibson 68 EB0, and now I have a 66 EB3.

Unfortunately the reasoning on each side is not just political, which is forbidden on TB, but ethical. Trying to run things as normal would benefit the majority, and some times providing the most benefit is the right thing to do. As I tell my students, lying to the Nazi to save the Jewish family your basement is right because (when) it produces the most benefit. Alternatively, it is also wrong to harm a minority to benefit a majority. Think of killing a homeless person to use their body parts to save four victims of a car accident. Each side is compelling and that is why there are passionate debates. So the question is: are we lying to Nazis or in a car crash?
Looking at your argument, wouldn't we have to define 'benefit?' What may benefit you may not be a benefit to others. If saving a people is considered a widely-known (and approved) benefit, then yes, you are compelled to do so. But the innocent homeless person's body parts are perhaps given for the benefit of a single selfish individual, so where's the benefit? At that, does the act have to benefit the majority to be even considered a positive act? (Mods, this is more of a philosophical discussion).
By the same token, when turning to equipment, must I purchase the Positive Grid Spark and find out all about it to offer benefit to my fellow combo aficionados? I feel it may be my duty to offer that to all, and while it may be self-sacrifice, I must do what I must do. Thanks, Doc, for helping me see more clearly!
